Job Description
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to play a lead security architecture role across complex enterprise and network environments, helping ensure solutions are secure, scalable and aligned to Telstra’s cyber security strategy. You will partner with business stakeholders, enterprise and domain architects, engineers, product vendors, delivery partners and operational teams to translate security requirements into practical architecture outcomes.
The role also contributes to the ongoing development of security standards, patterns, frameworks and guidelines, ensuring they remain actionable in a dynamic technology and systems environment. Success will be reflected through strong architectural governance, effective risk treatment, reusable security patterns and timely support for business-critical delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure solution architectures comply with Telstra’s security policies, standards, patterns and principles, with deviations appropriately managed through Telstra’s risk management frameworks and processes.
Actively collaborate with business stakeholders, enterprise and domain architects, engineers, constructor teams, product vendors and partners to define and operationalise security controls that protect Telstra and customer information, systems and network assets.
Perform security quality assurance activities and support operational readiness processes for initiatives and solution designs.
Define security solution architectures and document the corresponding business and security impacts, including requirements, solution impact assessments, high-level designs, solution briefs, solution architecture definitions and security risk assessments.
Identify and communicate security risks to business stakeholders in a timely and practical way, incorporating insights from privacy, legal, engineering and operational teams.
Drive assessments of emerging security capabilities to ensure architectural standards and capability roadmaps remain current and aligned to business objectives.
Define and document reusable assets such as standardised security requirements and solution patterns that reduce rework and improve consistency.
Contribute to the creation and governance of security strategy, standards and frameworks to support a coherent and optimised security architecture.
Foster strategic relationships across industry and technology vendors to anticipate emerging opportunities and threats and support innovation across business units, partners and customers.
Comply with Telstra Business Principles, Telstra Values, the Telstra Code of Conduct and Telstra policies and procedures.
About You
You are an experienced security architecture professional who can solve complex enterprise-scale security problems, work through ambiguity and translate customer and business security needs into deliverable technical and operational requirements. You can assess, develop and operationalise security solutions using control and risk management frameworks, and you are comfortable documenting security architectures, requirements, models, frameworks, patterns and standards for complex IT and network systems. Your security domain knowledge spans areas such as access control, cryptography, security architecture, information security governance and risk management, operations security, legal and regulatory compliance, network security, environmental security, and generative and agentic AI security.
Essential experience and qualifications:
Extensive experience, ideally 5+ years, providing complex security solutions, including security requirement elaboration, security control definition and security threat/risk assessment.
Experience solving enterprise-scale security problems involving high levels of ambiguity.
Experience developing or contributing to architecture or technology strategy.
Tertiary qualifications in IT, Engineering or a complementary discipline.
Highly desirable:
Relevant industry certifications such as CRISC, CISSP, CISM, SABSA, CCNP, CCIP, CCIE, CCSP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, MCSD, TOGAF, ITIL, COBIT 5, Agile or CGEIT.
Experience with Agile and DevOps environments.
Knowledge and experience in IT systems planning, design and technical architecture.
Experience designing service-oriented, RESTful and secure cloud-based architectures.
