Capital Medical Group is seeking a highly qualified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon to provide comprehensive surgical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as dedicated time for the education and clinical development of medical students, residents, and other trainees.

  • Position will include the education and clinical development of medical students, residents, and other trainees
  • Call rotation (evenings, weekends, holidays) to include timely response to inpatient consultations and coordinating patient handoffs and coverage arrangements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Clinical Care

  • Provide comprehensive plastic and reconstructive surgical care in inpatient and outpatient environments.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and develop individualized treatment plans for patients requiring plastic, reconstructive, restorative, and wound-related surgical services.
  • Provide preoperative evaluations, postoperative care, wound management, follow-up services, and ongoing clinical management.
  • Manage hospitalized patients, including new consultations, postoperative rounds, inpatient procedures, discharge planning, and transitions of care.
  • Provide reconstructive services for patients following trauma, cancer treatment, surgical resection, congenital conditions, complex wounds, or other medical conditions.
  • Perform procedures that may include breast reconstruction, soft-tissue reconstruction, skin and tissue grafting, flap procedures, scar revision, wound closure, and other reconstructive interventions based on the surgeon’s training and clinical privileges.
  • Collaborate with surgical and medical specialties to develop coordinated and comprehensive patient treatment plans.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, tumor boards, case reviews, wound-care discussions, and treatment-planning meetings, as appropriate.
  • Communicate treatment options, surgical risks, expected outcomes, recovery requirements, and follow-up plans clearly to patients and their families.
  • Provide patient-centered care that supports safety, quality, clinical effectiveness, functional restoration, and appropriate aesthetic outcomes

Medical Education

  • Participate in the education and clinical development of medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare trainees.
  • Provide appropriate clinical supervision, instruction, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Support an educational environment that promotes professionalism, patient safety, clinical excellence, and evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in selected academic conferences, case presentations, grand rounds, or educational activities, as assigned.
  • Model appropriate clinical judgment, professional conduct, patient communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Clinical care will remain the primary focus of this position, with teaching and academic responsibilities comprising a smaller portion of the physician’s overall professional effort.

 

Clinical Documentation and Charge Capture

  • Complete all clinical documentation accurately and within established organizational, hospital, and regulatory timeframes.
  • Utilize Epic for outpatient clinical documentation, ordering, results review, patient communication, and related workflows.
  • Utilize Cerner for inpatient clinical documentation, ordering, communication, and related workflows.
  • Complete operative reports promptly following surgical procedures.
  • Ensure that consultation notes, history and physical documentation, progress notes, procedure notes, discharge documentation, and postoperative records are complete and timely.
  • Accurately document the medical necessity, complexity, diagnoses, procedures, and level of services provided.
  • Submit professional charges and complete all charge-capture activities within established deadlines.
  • Ensure that charges are complete, accurate, and supported by the clinical documentation.
  • Respond promptly to coding, billing, compliance, clinical documentation, and charge-capture clarification requests.
  • Correct documentation or charge-capture deficiencies within required timeframes.
  • Comply with all organizational policies related to coding, billing, clinical documentation, electronic health record use, privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.

Timely documentation and accurate charge capture are essential performance expectations of this position.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Successful completion of an accredited residency training program in plastic surgery or an approved surgical training pathway leading to plastic surgery specialization.
  • Completion of any fellowship training required for the surgeon’s intended scope of practice.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Plastic Surgery through the applicable recognized certifying board.
  • Current or eligible unrestricted medical license in the jurisdiction or jurisdictions in which services will be provided.
  • Eligibility for appointment to the medical staff and for all required clinical privileges at affiliated hospitals and facilities.
  • Current controlled-substance registrations and prescribing credentials, as applicable.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification and any additional life-support certifications required by Capital Medical Group or an affiliated hospital.
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in inpatient and outpatient plastic and reconstructive surgery.
  • Ability to satisfy all credentialing, privileging, background screening, health screening, and professional liability requirements.
  • Ability to participate in call coverage as specified in the employment agreement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience practicing in an academic medical environment.
  • Experience teaching or supervising medical students, residents, fellows, or other healthcare trainees.
  • Fellowship training or advanced experience in reconstructive microsurgery, breast reconstruction, craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, complex wound management, or another relevant subspecialty.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary oncology, trauma, breast surgery, wound-care, or surgical programs.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems, preferably Epic and Cerner.
  • Demonstrated history of timely clinical documentation and accurate charge capture.
  • Experience participating in quality improvement, clinical research, outcomes review, program development, or scholarly activity.
  • Strong record of clinical quality, patient safety, professionalism, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
