About the Role
Happen Bank is looking for a Lead Automation Engineer to help advance the quality, reliability, and speed of our software delivery. In this role, you’ll own test automation for critical product capabilities, evolve our automation frameworks and testing strategies, and partner across Engineering to build quality into the development lifecycleYou’ll combine hands-on automation expertise with technical leadership, helping improve team practices, mentor other QA Engineers, and scale testing capabilities that enable us to deliver high-quality products faster
What You'll Do
- Own and deliver test automation scripts in our services to validate and ship our core revenue-offering product features
- Provide oversight for features delivered by other engineers within their scrum team through code and design reviews
- Provide thought leadership in the evolution of our test automation frameworks from the ground up and collaborate with platform engineering
- Evolve the testing methodologies/strategies towards a CICD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) model to ship our features faster and with highest quality
- Use your seasoned modern-day engineering methodologies to help drive testing and coordinate with scrum teams and functional counterparts in overseeing bug tracking, test prioritization, test automation and release
- Independently drive outcomes in scoped work using AI tools and actively showing peers new ways to apply them—acting as a multiplier, not just a user
About You
- 7+ years of test automation or quality engineering experience, and a bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- You've led medium to large scale projects and mentored other QA Engineers on the team
- Hands-on experience developing test automation scripts in both Java and JS (UIRunner, Playwright or similar)
- Expertise in Java and JavaScript and ability to understand product code
- Experience with CICD methodologies and tools like Jenkins
- Experience with Web Services/API testing
- Familiarity with test engineering tools such as JUnit, Selenium WebDriver (Bonus: Appium/Detox)
- Knowledgeable about Databases like MySQL, and Cloud (Bonus: AWS)
- Hands-on experience using tools like JIRA, Git, IDEs, Debuggers, Profilers
- Experience with designing test cases and test scenarios to test software
- Effectively communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner and ability to coordinate cross-team efforts
- You have hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate your work and improve output quality.
- You're equally comfortable using them yourself and showing colleagues how — you see it as part of owning your domain, not just a nice-to-have
- You're also thoughtful about limitations and where human judgment matters most

The above locations are eligible offices for this role. The locations have been determined to foster in-person collaboration with this role’s team or the related business lines. We utilize a hybrid work model, and our teams are in-office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. In-person attendance is essential for this role’s success, and remote placement will not be considered. Happen Bank offers relocation, based on actual job level.

While the position will primarily work local hours, Happen Bank is headquartered in Pacific Time and our ideal candidate will be flexible working across time zones when necessary.
Travel Requirements
As needed travel to Happen Bank offices and/or other locations, as needed.
Compensation
The target base salary range for this position is 160,000-185,000. The base salary of the role will be determined by job-related knowledge, experience, education, skills, and location. Base salary is just one part of Happen Bank's Total Rewards package. You may also be eligible for long-term awards (equity) and an annual bonus (which is based on company performance, employee performance and eligible earnings).
