DaVita is seeking a collaborative, business-minded, and strategic attorney to join the Real Estate team within the Justice League of DaVita (JLD) as a Director, Senior Corporate Counsel. In this role, you will serve as a key legal advisor supporting DaVita's nationwide real estate portfolio, providing practical legal guidance and strategic counsel on a broad range of leasing, occupancy, and real estate-related matters.

As a member of the JLD Real Estate team, you will be responsible for providing legal counsel, strategy, and direction on a wide variety of commercial real estate transactions and leasing matters. Leadership responsibilities include assessing and advising on legal and business risks, guiding and developing paralegals and other team members, and helping determine the appropriate level of legal review and partnership for regional real estate initiatives. You will work closely with internal business partners and outside counsel, as needed, to deliver exceptional support to our primary client, Genesis.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who can build strong relationships across functions and effectively balance legal risk with business objectives. Our world-class Real Estate Legal team supports all aspects of managing and optimizing DaVita's real estate portfolio. This position is based in Denver, Colorado.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Negotiate, draft, and advise on commercial lease agreements, lease amendments, construction contracts, purchase and sale agreements and related real estate documents, including SNDAs, estoppels, letters of intent, and ancillary agreements

• Serve as subject matter expert on lease renewals and other lease-related matters.

• Independently manage a broad range of projects and initiatives supporting DaVita’s existing real estate portfolio and continued growth.

• Partner with and provide day-to-day direction and legal advice to business teams on a variety of real estate issues.
• Analyze legal risks and develop strategies relating to real estate due diligence, including title, survey, environmental, entitlement, and related issues.
• Collaborate closely with other legal teams on regulatory, litigation, compliance, and lease-related matters.
• Develop, maintain, and improve templates, policies, processes, and training materials to support business objectives and drive operational efficiency.
• Provide strategic guidance regarding landlord-tenant disputes, lease enforcement matters, construction and maintenance issues, rent disputes, possession requirements, casualty events, and other real estate-related risk management matters

• Mentor, train, and provide direction to other Real Estate Legal team members, including paralegals, lease administrators, and administrative professionals, as appropriate

• Effectively select, manage and oversee outside counsel when retained.

Minimum Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with the Colorado State Bar or ability to obtain admission.
• 5-8+ years of relevant legal experience, with significant experience in commercial real estate transactions and leasing.
• Demonstrated academic achievement and strong legal analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience at a large law firm, specialized real estate law firm, and/or in-house legal department.
• Significant experience negotiating and advising on commercial leasing and transactional real estate matters (acquisition/disposition).
• Knowledge of healthcare law and regulatory requirements, or a willingness to develop expertise in the healthcare industry.
• Passion for innovation, process improvement, and change management.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong writing, drafting, and editing skills.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands and manage complex workloads.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• A high degree of initiative, ownership, and business judgment.
• Experience building and developing teams, improving processes, and creating scalable solutions that align with business goals.
• Proven ability to partner effectively with executives, business leaders, and cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with technology and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent planning, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The Salary Range for the role is $115,000.00 - $183,000.00 per year.
