Role Overview
As a part of the Enterprise Data & Analytics team, the Senior Business Analyst is responsible for owning functional analysis and conceptual solution design for complex, cross‑functional data initiatives. This role requires deep expertise in functional analysis, with demonstrated strengths in information architecture and/or Data architecture.
This role is focused on deep discovery, problem framing, requirements facilitation, and translating business needs into clear, actionable functional and data requirements. You will partner closely with business stakeholders to understand objectives, constraints, and end‑to‑end processes, while also diving deep into data nuances, edge cases, and dependencies.
The role is accountable for proactively identifying gaps and ambiguities, designing conceptual and functional solutions before technical implementation begins, and partnering with engineering teams to shepherd solutions through delivery.
Key Responsibilities Business & Functional Analysis
- Act as the primary functional analyst on complex, cross-functional data initiatives.
- Lead requirements elicitation and facilitation through workshops, working sessions, and stakeholder interviews.
- Translate business objectives, constraints, and pain points into clear, structured, and testable functional and data requirements (e.g., BRDs, functional designs, epics, acceptance criteria).
- Frame ambiguous problems, perform root cause analysis, and ensure the “right problem” is being solved.
Information Architecture & Data Understanding
- Develop a strong understanding of data domains, entities, relationships, and definitions relevant to business use cases.
- Analyse and document end-to-end‑ data flows, including upstream sources and downstream consumers.
- Create and maintain conceptual and logical artifacts such as:
- Conceptual data models
- Data flow diagrams
- Data dictionaries and definitions
- Business process flows
- Assess data quality considerations, lineage, and business meaning as part of requirements.
Conceptual & Functional Solutioning
- Proactively identify gaps, ambiguities, edge cases, assumptions, and dependencies in requirements.
- Design conceptual and functional solutions before technical implementation begins.
- Evaluate multiple solution options and recommend approaches aligned with business objectives and constraints.
- Ensure solutions consider end-to-‑end impact across people, processes, data, and systems.
Delivery Partnership & Execution Support
- Partner closely with data engineering, platform, and delivery teams to translate functional designs into implementable solutions.
- Act as the functional “anchor” throughout delivery; clarifying intent, refining requirements, and supporting UAT and validation.
- Maintain alignment between stakeholders and delivery teams as requirements evolve.
- Contribute to roadmaps, sequencing, and dependency management for initiatives.
Thought Leadership
- Set a high bar for functional analysis quality through strong artifacts, structured thinking, and clarity.
- Influence best practices, templates, and standards for requirements and functional design.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Management, Computer Science, or related field
- Master’s Degree in Management or related field preferred
Experience Qualifications
- Typically, 6+ years of experience in business analysis, functional analysis or data analysis roles with a strong track of owning complex, cross-functional initiatives end-to-end.
- Experience in information/data architecture, data management, is a plus
- Familiarity with data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
- Relevant regulatory knowledge in a specific industry (e.g. finance, healthcare) a plus
Must Have Skills & Experience
- Strong functional analysis expertise.
- Proven experience with requirements facilitation, elicitation, and documentation.
- Hands‑on experience with information architecture and/or business architecture, including:
- Data domains and entities
- Conceptual and logical modelling
- End-to‑end data flows
- Ability to see the big picture (business objectives, processes, downstream impacts) while also performing deep, detail-oriented‑ analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve ambiguities, gaps, and dependencies.
- Strong conceptual and functional solutioning skills prior to technical implementation.
- Excellent critical thinking and structured problem-solving abilities.
- Clear, confident communication skills with both business and technical audiences.
- Experience partnering closely with business stakeholders and engineering/delivery teams.
- Comfortable acting as the functional owner on initiatives, setting direction, defending design decisions and maintaining alignment as requirements evolve.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in a lead or mentorship capacity, guiding other analysts or influencing standards and best practices (without formal people management).
- Familiarity with data platforms, analytics tools, or modern data architectures (e.g., data warehouses, data lakes, pipelines), without needing to be hands-on‑ technical.
- Experience creating or contributing to enterprise data models, conceptual data models, or capability maps.
- Exposure to Agile or product-oriented‑ delivery environments.
- Background in data governance, data quality, or metadata management.
- Experience documenting functional designs, logical models, or business process flows.
- Domain knowledge relevant to the business (helpful but not required).
Tools & Artifacts (Helpful but Not Required)
- Experience working with conceptual and logical artifacts such as data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, and process models.
- Familiarity with collaboration and documentation tools such as Miro, Visio, Microsoft Excel, and light analytical querying using SQL or insights validation via Power BI / Tableau.
