Description
The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs to cars, light trucks, SUV’s, trailers and small equipment to ensure Gila County and it’s employees have safe, reliable, and properly operating vehicles and equipment. This position requires the operation of service trucks and occasionally some light and heavy duty trucks and equipment in addition to ensuring a clean and safe workplace.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED |
High School Diploma or GED. |
MINIMUM YEARS OF DIRECTLY RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
Two (2) years combined of directly related on the job experience in either car, truck or equipment maintenance and repair; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. |
PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS REQUIRED |
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Basic training in gasoline engine maintenance, brakes, steering & suspension, basic electrical, climate control and gasoline engine repair required. Professional trade and/or technical certification desirable. |
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED |
Routine maintenance; electrical/electronic systems for vehicles and other equipment; hydraulic systems; understanding of mechanical machines and tools; hazardous materials (handling and disposal); automotive/equipment maintenance principles and practices; maintenance/repair methods and standards; interface and use of diagnostic equipment used to repair/maintain vehicles and equipment; safety precautions relevant to repairing, maintaining and operating light and heavy duty vehicles; design and fabrication techniques. |
SKILLS REQUIRED |
Customer service; basic computer skills; use of computers and applicable computer software; multi-tasking; operating light and heavy duty vehicles/equipment; problem recognition; problem solving; troubleshooting; following flow charts and conducting tests; electrical/electronic diagnostics; operation and understanding of scan tools and other job specific specialized tools; read, understand, and navigate electrical wiring diagrams and electronic and paperback service manuals. |
ABILITIES REQUIRED |

WORK ENVIRONMENT |
Incumbents in this position perform work in a maintenance shop environment and occasionally in the field and in and around construction type areas. May occasionally spend time in an office environment. |
SAFETY RISK EXPOSURE |
Incumbents in this position may be exposed to variable weather conditions when repairing vehicles in the field; exposure to engine, transmission and hydraulic oil, cleaning solvents, physical danger, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire hazards, respiratory hazards, extreme temperature, and noise and vibration. |
PROTECTIVE GEAR & SAFETY MANUALS |
Incumbents in this position are required to constantly follow written and/or electronic safety procedures and manuals relevant to the division or department. This position constantly requires safety foot wear, eye protection devices and hard hat; routinely requires hearing protection devices, and occasionally protective welding apparel (i.e. helmet, gloves, clothing). |
