Summary: The Engineering Manager coordinates departmental activities related to the maintenance and improvement of chassis mounted fuel and lubrication equipment at Stellar Industries’ Galion, OH facility. The manager prioritizes projects and daily work for the team, which provides design engineering support to manufacturing departments for all product produced through the facility. Furthermore, the Engineering Manager is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with operations, plant management, and other support function leaders. The manager will coach and develop their team into a collaborative support group that focuses on root cause analysis, problem solving, and continuous product improvement for the benefit of both internal partners and external customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage the hiring, training, and technical development of engineering personnel.
• Coach and develop the team with a people first perspective, focusing on relationship building and collaboration as a core concept.
• Identify opportunities to reduce product cost, improve reliability, and simplify manufacturing without sacrificing safety or quality.
• Identify and eliminate sources of waste in departmental workflows, as well as eliminate manufacturing waste via design.
• Assist in evaluating field performance, warranty levels, and customer feedback to prioritize engineering improvements.
• Manage engineered to order products ensuring designs are delivered in a timely manner, satisfy customer requirements, and are manufacturable.
• Review designs to specifications to ensure compliance with desired features, performance, and required regulations.
• Coordinate with other departments to align engineering projects with cross functional timelines.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance on complex design challenges.
• Influence designs to maximize commonality, scalability, and lifecycle performance across product lines.
• Compile data and prepare reports related to research and testing of existing products as required.
• Fulfill customer service requests, including warranty inspection, field unit troubleshooting, etc.
• Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
• Follow all safety rules as laid out in the company employee handbook and other supplemental safety training. Continuously promote a culture of working safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
General Competencies and Skills:
• Ability to plan and organize departmental work schedules.
• General knowledge of Microsoft 365 products with proficiency in Word and Excel.
• Capable of reading and accurately interpreting engineering drawings and other technical documents.
• Ability to effectively communicate through written and oral means with individuals from production to corporate leadership levels.
• Analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
• Working knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems associated with the automotive or work truck industry.
• Knowledge of ERP software and associated systems preferred.
• Working knowledge of 2D and 3D design software preferred.
• Be willing to work both independently and in a team environment.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering-related role.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
Physical Requirements:
• Regular standing, walking, and use of hands to feel or handle objects, tools, and controls.
• Frequent verbal communication required.
Additional Requirements:
• Company sponsored continuing education and training.
• Some overnight travel may be required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
