Overview

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Under the supervision of the Branch Director, the Middle School Director plans and executes of a broad range of programs for middle school members (such as Education, Social Recreation, STEAM, Leadership and Service, and Physical Education) with the primary concern for the program of activities. The Middle School Director supports our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship of our members. Markets and establishes community relations to support middle school programs. Safety is the number one priority of the Middle School Director.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment, conducive to youth development. All storage areas are organized for quick retrieval of items. Repairs are reported to Branch Directer and taken care of in timely manner. Responsible for maintenance for all Club Middle School Department equipment.
  • Will communicate with the local middle school teachers and administration.
  • Plan an execute Middle School Programs to actively engage members, parents, volunteers, and the community.
  • Plan and conduct monthly Middle School Nights for members at an age appropriate level that are fun and engaging with safety measures in place.
  • Plan and oversee programs in 3 focus areas: Academic Success, Health Lifestyles, and Character & Leadership.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for professional development for other Middle School program staff and volunteers in the Club to promote learning and teach best practices.
  • Facilitate and improve the Club’s Middle School programs.
  • Provide leadership, development, and implementation of the curriculum relevant to the Middle School age groups (10 - 14).
  • Ensure that topics taught in the Club’s programs meet state and national standards and follow current Middle School trends.
  • Maintain and understand current trends of developments the occur during pre-adolescents.
  • Understand and stay up-to-date on current racial and ethical trends and topics that occur in the world and through out Intermediate School. 
  • Collaborate with schools and community partners to support Middle School programs and initiatives.
  • Collect quantitative data on pre, mid, and post program outcomes for members.
  • Use a variety of technical applications and online resources.
  • Administrative tasks include but are not limited to: creating purchase orders and purchasing needed supplies, budget development and maintaining budget, program income, grant management, and inputting data into the member tracking system.
  •  

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

  • May manage special programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other Club organization activities as requested. Will represent Club at events in the community.
  •  

  • Required to drive the Club van periodically; will be required to secure a Class B driver’s license within one year of date of hire.
  •  

  • Will be required to consult with parents, members, and volunteers verbally or in writing concerning Middle School programs and goals.
  •  

  • Will be required to handle other tasks or projects, as assigned such as but not limited to: building maintenance, painting of building, van maintenance, serving food, set up of AV equipment, etc.
  •  

  • Is a California required mandated reporter. Supervises and ensures the safety of members throughout the Club.
  •  

     

    RELATIONSHIPS:

     

    Internal:   Due to the relationships with members, staff, and volunteers, a minimum of 2 years commitment is recommended. Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. 

     

    External:  Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

    Qualifications

    • SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

       

      • Preferred a 4 year college degree and/or a minimum of 2 years of equivalent/relevant work experience based on the development needs of youth ages 10 -14 years old.

       

      • Strong communication skills, understanding of group dynamics.

       

      • Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities.

       

      • Basic knowledge of updating and managing websites.

       

      • Ability to repair technology equipment.

       

      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

       

      • Demonstrated knowledge of audio/visual equipment use (projectors, screens, televisions, security systems etc.).

       

      • Experience using video development software and other softwares.

       

      • Mandatory CPR, First Aid, and AED Certifications.

       

      • Valid Driver’s License and clear driving record.
      • Ability to learn and teach Boys & Girls Clubs of America's programming in the 3 focus areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Character and Leadership.

       

       

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:   

       

      • Use of hands and upper extremities to type and operate computers.

       

      • Manual dexterity to repair equipment.

       

      • Ability to lift 25-50 pounds.

       

      • Ability to sit, stand and walk to supervise members.

       

      • Noise level in work environment varies from very quiet to very noisy based on attendance.
      • Supervision of large, medium, and small groups is required. BGCCV staff ratio is 1 adult per 20 members.
