Context
Role:The Fire and Life Safety Specialist – Rail Tunnels shall be responsible for the planning, development, review, and coordination of fire and life safety strategies for tunnels, underground stations, shafts, portals, and associated rail facilities in the High Speed context. The specialist shall ensure that fire engineering, smoke control, emergency egress, ventilation response, fire detection and protection systems, and firefighter access provisions are properly incorporated into the project design and comply with applicable project requirements, standards, and authority expectations.
Missions/Main Duties
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and review fire and life safety strategies for rail tunnels and underground stations.
- Define fire scenarios, smoke management philosophy, evacuation principles, and emergency response requirements.
- Undertake or review smoke and egress modelling for tunnel and station fire scenarios.
- Review design submissions for compliance with tender requirements, codes, and project safety objectives.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, MEP, rail systems, operations, architecture, and rolling stock disciplines.
- Support risk assessments for tunnels of varying lengths and configurations.
- Contribute to tender documentation, design review reports, and technical compliance assessments.
- Assist in stakeholder coordination with operators, emergency services, and relevant authorities.
Profile/Skills
Minimum Requirements:Degree-qualified engineer or specialist in a relevant discipline with demonstrated experience in tunnel ventilation, fire life safety, smoke control, smoke and air flow modelling analysis, and underground rail infrastructure projects.
