Job Details:
About the Role
Constellation Payments is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Risk Analyst to support merchant risk monitoring, transaction review, bank account change controls, and ongoing portfolio risk oversight. This role is responsible for identifying and mitigating emerging fraud, compliance, transaction, chargeback, ACH, NACHA, website, MCC, and merchant behavior risks across both new and existing merchants.
The ideal candidate is proactive, analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities, workloads, risk trends, and business needs continuously evolve. They are comfortable managing multiple investigations simultaneously, making sound risk-based decisions, and taking ownership of issues through to resolution. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to adapt quickly to changing processes and priorities, and a willingness to take initiative beyond day-to-day responsibilities.
The Risk Analyst will work closely with Risk leadership, Underwriting, Onboarding, Merchant Support, Finance, Compliance, and external partners to ensure risk items are identified, investigated, documented, escalated, and resolved in a timely and consistent manner. This role plays a critical part in strengthening post-boarding controls, protecting the merchant portfolio, supporting regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement across risk operations.
This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a growing organization, contributing to the development of risk programs, monitoring frameworks, operational controls, and strategic initiatives while supporting the evolving needs of the business.
What You’ll Do
Monitor merchant activity for fraud, compliance, reputational, operational, ACH, chargeback, and transaction-related risks, investigating flagged activity including held transactions, large tickets, refunds, duplicate transactions, excessive authorizations/declines, suspicious processing behavior, and emerging risk trends.
Conduct merchant risk reviews and maintain complete case documentation, investigations, outreach, escalations, follow-ups, and resolution records within Salesforce.
Manage bank account change reviews, including validation, verification, approvals, system updates, quality control, and ongoing post-change monitoring for suspicious activity, refunds, returns, chargebacks, and other elevated risk indicators.
Support ongoing merchant monitoring programs, including website reviews, LegitScript screenings, alert investigations, negative media reviews, sanctions screening, regulatory concerns, prohibited activity reviews, and escalation of significant findings.
Perform enhanced due diligence and monitoring for high-risk industries, MCCs, NEC classifications, non-profits, firearms/ammunition merchants, and other restricted or sensitive business categories.
Monitor chargeback, ACH, and NACHA-related activity, including return rates, unauthorized and administrative returns, recurring payment activity, threshold monitoring, trend analysis, and remediation efforts with merchants, partners, and internal stakeholders.
Support periodic KYC/KYB refreshes, merchant portfolio reviews, and documentation validation to ensure ongoing compliance and business model alignment.
Maintain risk monitoring logs, investigation records, reporting dashboards, and tracking tools while preparing recurring reports on monitoring activity, escalations, investigations, high-risk merchants, and emerging portfolio trends.
Document investigations clearly and objectively, including findings, evidence, risk assessments, decisions, ownership, and recommended next steps, escalating critical fraud, compliance, sanctions, regulatory, or operational risks to leadership as required.
Support risk process improvements, reporting enhancements, underwriting initiatives, and other operational projects while performing additional duties assigned by leadership to support evolving business needs.
Operate effectively in a rapidly changing environment, adapting to shifting priorities, workloads, procedures, risk controls, regulatory requirements, and business initiatives.
Take ownership of new responsibilities, support cross-functional projects, and perform miscellaneous duties assigned by management to meet evolving organizational needs.
Basic Qualifications
1–3 years of experience in risk operations, underwriting, payment operations, fraud monitoring, banking operations, compliance operations, or a similar role.
Working understanding of payment processing workflows, merchant accounts, transaction monitoring, chargebacks, ACH returns, refunds, and risk flags.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to validate documentation, identify inconsistencies, and maintain accurate case notes and trackers.
Ability to manage multiple open reviews, follow-ups, escalations, and time-sensitive cases at once.
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with partners, merchants, and internal stakeholders.
Comfort working with CRM/case management tools, spreadsheets, and operational trackers.
Ability to follow documented procedures while identifying gaps, control weaknesses, or opportunities for process improvement.
Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive merchant, banking, fraud, and compliance information.
Ability to work cross-functionally with Risk, Underwriting, Onboarding, Merchant Support, Finance, Product, and partner-facing teams.
Working knowledge of ACH processing, NACHA Operating Rules, ACH return codes, unauthorized return thresholds, administrative returns, and ACH risk monitoring best practices.
Ability to review and investigate ACH-related risk indicators, including unusual return activity, account validation concerns, transaction anomalies, and merchant processing trends.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in merchant acquiring, PayFac operations, fintech, payment risk, card-not-present environments, or payment gateway operations.
Familiarity with Payrix, Salesforce, Zift, Vantiv IQ, LegitScript, GIACT, Inscribe, or similar risk and verification tools.
Experience reviewing bank change documentation, voided checks, bank letters, authorized signers, ownership matches, or account verification controls.
Experience reviewing chargebacks, ACH returns, transaction holds, duplicate transactions, excessive refunds, or large-ticket verification workflows.
Knowledge of MCC risk classification, high-risk industries, NEC classifications, prohibited merchant categories, and enhanced due diligence triggers.
Experience preparing risk reporting, KPI summaries, audit support documentation, or operational leadership updates.
Comfort working in a remote-first environment with strong follow-through, documentation discipline, and queue ownership.
Experience working with ACH risk monitoring programs, NACHA compliance requirements, return rate management, and payment network rules.
Key Success Measures
Risk queues, held transactions, bank changes, alerts, and follow-ups are reviewed consistently and within expected operating cadence.
Cases and monitoring logs are accurate, complete, and updated with clear next steps, owner, and status.
High-risk, critical, or suspicious activity is escalated promptly with supporting detail.
Bank account changes are validated, QC’d, documented, and monitored after completion.
Risk reporting is delivered clearly, with trends, open items, and recommended follow-ups visible to leadership.
Process gaps are identified and translated into practical improvements, templates, or workflow updates.
