Position Title:

Assistant Professor of Dance – Tenure Track

Job Category:

Faculty

Employment Type:

Regular

Job Profile:

Assistant Professor

Job Duties:

The UW-Stevens Point Dance Program seeks a highly motivated, dynamic dance artist educator to join our multi-faceted undergraduate dance program. We seek candidates with professional dance experience and teaching methodologies that embrace the multi-centric perspectives in our field. Our new colleague will bring unique experiences and approaches to teaching and scholarship that expand traditional dance convention. A successful candidate should be an outstanding teacher and mentor who wants to share their individual viewpoint and experience with our dedicated students.

The Dance Program offers a BA degree with broad and deep course work in dance technique, creative practice, and historical and theoretical studies. As one of three faculty members, this position will support all areas of the curriculum. We prioritize a broad range of dance techniques including ballet, hip hop, jazz, modern, and tap for all dance majors and minors.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in teaching all levels of jazz technique including the history of and legacy within the form. Additional teaching in Hip Hop, House, Street Style, or Latin forms will be expected. Finally, the successful candidate will have performance, choreographic, and educational experiences that can contribute to the teaching of a variety of creative practice and theory courses including but not limited to Dance Composition, Dance History, Movement Analysis, and Teaching Theories. There is opportunity to contribute to reimagining curricular initiatives and developing new courses.

The Dance Program is housed within the Department of Theatre and Dance, home to a robust and thriving musical theatre major. This position may also teach a Musical Theatre performance class and may choreograph/assist with musical staging for one musical theatre production each school year. Depending on the choreographic needs of the production, knowledge and skills in tap and other traditional musical theatre styles is desirable.

UW-Stevens Point is a teaching institution, and a full-time teaching load includes 12 credits or four classes per semester. This position will likely teach 2-3 technique classes and one theory class per semester. A course reassignment is given in the semester when choreographing the musical.  All faculty in the Dance Program contribute to the General Education program by offering non-major dance technique classes that meet UW-Stevens Point’s Wellness designation.

Additional non-instructional duties include academic advising, student recruitment, mentorship of the student dance concert, scholarly/creative activity typical of all tenure track faculty, including annually choreographing new work for dance majors/minors, and service to the department, college, and university.

As we intentionally aspire to address the need for systemic change in our department, the dance industry, and our greater community, we strongly encourage historically under-represented candidates to apply.

Key Job Responsibilities:
