Description of Work

You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.This position Drafts and checks highway structure plans for design, rehabilitation, preservation and critical repairs; calculates quantities for structural steel, prestressed concrete, cast-in-place concrete, substructure, and miscellaneous structural elements. Calculates and checks final computations and quantities for structural steel, prestressed concrete, cast-in-place concrete, substructure, and miscellaneous structural elements.
The selected applicant for this position should possess considerable knowledge and understanding of concepts, practices, and theories used in the technical specialty area with limited supervision. Working knowledge of state and/or federal rules and regulations. Working knowledge and skill in the use of equipment and software. Ability to maintain detailed records; ability to perform analysis of findings and recommend some corrective actions. Ability to exercise a wide range of decision-making and judgment. Ability to effectively use verbal and nonverbal skills to express non-routine or moderately complex technical and/or program concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, organized, and persuasive manner. Ability to modify delivery, language or material to account for the characteristics and needs of the audience. Ability to report findings or project status to higher-level management.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC09 $41,206.00 - $72,113.00
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Demonstrated ability to draft and check highway structure plans for completeness, accuracy, and clarity.
- Demonstrated ability to check final computations and quantities for highway structure plans.
- Experience with reading structure plans.
- Working knowledge of engineering software including CAD (e.g. Open Bridge Modeler), spreadsheets, and word processors.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to individuals inside and outside work unit.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
