Short Description
- Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
- Obtains current patient information including but not limited to; vital signs, height, weight, specimens, allergies, reason for visit, chief complaint, medical history updates, and medication changes, and records same on patient chart.
- Properly identify and prepare the patient and explain procedures. Maintains patient privacy during testing.
- Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
- Perform routine EKG procedures in accordance with the American Heart Association standards and department policies.
- Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.
- Performs treatment & wound care.
- Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients/ family/ significant others while providing care in a high stress environment with multiple priorities.
- Administers: oral, topical, and injectable medications according to patient safety standards.
Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
- Processes instruments and equipment as needed.
Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
Assists with delegated patient education activities including but not limited to distributing education literature, etc.
Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician and verifies presence of consent prior to treatment or procedures.
Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician.
Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians.
Schedules patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedules appointments to follow-up on test results, as applicable.
Arranges for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed.
Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
All other duties as assigned
Experience Required
- 3-years experience in a hospital, physician’s office, or clinic preferred.
- Phlebotomy experience required.
- Performance of EKG required.
Education Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
License/Certification Requirements
- Current registration with the New Jersey State Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Special Requirements
- Current American Heart Association BCLS/CPR certification required.
