Job Description Summary

The Senior Engineer – Process Engineering is responsible for independently executing and owning assigned process engineering and customer application engineering scope for boiler and thermal power plant service, retrofit, renovation and modernization (R&M), and new product introduction (NPI) programs. The role is expected to develop technically compliant, competitive, and customer-focused engineering solutions across inquiry-to-order (ITO), execution, and product implementation phases within assigned scope.
The position requires strong technical knowledge in boiler performance, thermal system analysis, steam-water cycle integration, and process engineering deliverables, along with the ability to develop and review technical inputs for bids, proposals, technical clarifications, and risk assessments. The role works closely with global engineering teams, regional stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality engineering output aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, and GE Vernova standards for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

·       Independently execute and own assigned process engineering scope related to boiler performance, thermal system analysis, and steam-water cycle integration for service, retrofit, renovation and modernization (R&M), and new product introduction (NPI) programs.

·       Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as process calculations, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, process descriptions, operating philosophies, performance evaluations, and related technical documentation.

·       Analyze customer enquiries, tender documents, operating data, and technical specifications to define technically compliant, competitive, and executable application engineering solutions within assigned scope.

·       Develop and Review customer application engineering activities, including preparation of technical inputs for bids and proposals, compliance matrices, customer submittals, process schemes, technical deviations, assumptions, scope clarifications, and feasibility evaluations.

·       Lead technical discussions with customers and internal stakeholders to explain proposed solutions, engineering assumptions, and application feasibility.

·       Contribute to opportunity assessment for boiler upgrade and retrofit packages, including emissions-related modifications and performance improvement solutions.

·       Coordinate with commercial, sourcing, execution, controls and instrumentation, mechanical, and project engineering teams to develop optimized technical solutions and ensure alignment of scope, assumptions, interfaces, and deliverables.

·       Identify, assess, document, and support mitigation of technical deviations, assumptions, risks, and opportunities during application engineering, project execution, and product implementation phases.

·       Work closely with global engineering teams, regional stakeholders, and subject matter experts to align technical solutions with customer requirements, fleet needs, business objectives, and implementation constraints.

·       Drive technical risk assessment reviews with global teams and subject matter experts to identify design, performance, operability, reliability, maintainability, and execution risks associated with proposed boiler solutions.

·       Take ownership of assigned ITO activities through project handover.

·       Ensure high-quality and consistent engineering output related to performance calculations, thermal assessments, design reviews, optimization studies, and technical evaluations.

·       Support NPI activities through evaluation of new or modified process concepts, product features, design changes, engineering validation requirements, and implementation considerations.

·       Contribute to technical excellence through participation in design reviews, technical reviews, constructability reviews, lessons learned implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

·       Provide technical guidance and review support to less experienced engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing and capability building across the team.

·       Ensure engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with applicable standards, customer requirements, product requirements, and business processes, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC).

·       Contribute to functional initiatives and metrics related to Life Saving Rules, Product Safety embedded in design, On-Time Delivery, Right First Time, Kaizen, productivity, cost-out, quality, and Lean Six Sigma.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

·       Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited university or college.

·       Relevant experience in boiler engineering, process engineering, thermal engineering, performance engineering, or steam power plant applications.

·       Relevant experience in process engineering for service, retrofit, renovation and modernization (R&M), customer application engineering, or related thermal power projects.

·       Strong technical knowledge of boiler performance, thermodynamics, heat and mass balance, combustion-related process considerations, and steam power plant systems.

·       Experience preparing and reviewing process engineering deliverables and technical documentation for boiler or thermal power applications.

·       Familiarity with engineering tools, methods, and systems relevant to process engineering, performance evaluation, and power plant applications.

·       Demonstrated ability to define engineering assumptions and support resolution of technical issues within assigned scope.

·       Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and manage technical risks within assigned scope with appropriate urgency and discipline.

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

·       Ability to work to committed timelines while maintaining safety, quality, and engineering integrity.

·       Willingness to travel to sites and flexibility to support business requirements, as needed.

Desired Characteristics

·       Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.

·       Demonstrated ability to develop practical, technically sound, and customer-focused engineering solutions.

·       Experience supporting customer application engineering, technical proposals, or tendering activities.

·       Familiarity with NPI, product change management, validation support, or technology implementation in an engineering environment.

·       Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across functions, regions, and engineering disciplines.

·       Familiarity with Lean, continuous improvement, and standardization practices.

·       Customer-focused mindset with balanced attention to technical, commercial, and execution priorities.

·       Ability to influence through technical depth, clear communication, and disciplined execution.

·       Experience using digital engineering tools, structured documentation systems, and productivity tools in a global engineering environment.

·       Awareness of AI-enabled tools for engineering productivity, document quality improvement, technical knowledge retrieval, and data analysis, with appropriate engineering validation.
