The Position

The Compliance Intern will join Wellington’s EU Funds Compliance team on a six month basis to support the European fund management business, which develops and oversees commingled funds domiciled primarily in Luxembourg and Ireland and distributed globally. Based in Luxembourg, the intern will work alongside the MLRO and Compliance, and other business partners to strengthen the team’s use of technology, data and reporting.

 

The role is designed for a tech-savvy candidate who can apply AI tools, data analytics and dashboard development to practical AML data challenges. The intern will help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automate manual processes, create impactful reporting and support data-driven decision-making, while gaining exposure to the compliance framework of a regulated investment fund manager.

 

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities will include:

• Support the design, development and maintenance of dashboards and management information for AML/CFT related topics, including clear visualisation of key metrics, trends, exceptions and actions.

• Analyse compliance data from different sources, validate data quality and translate findings into concise, decision-useful insights.

• Identify repetitive or manual activities that may be suitable for automation and help develop practical solutions using approved technology and AI tools.

• Help streamline data collection, tracking and reporting used for AML/CFT reports to the competent authorities such as the CSSF and the AMLA compliance monitoring, regulatory reporting, governance committees and boards.

• Support enhancements to the compliance monitoring programme and related tools, including testing workflows, issue tracking and follow-up reporting.

 

Knowledge and Competencies

The ideal candidate is likely to have:

• Current enrolment in, or recent completion of, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, information systems, business analytics, finance, economics, law or a related discipline.

• Demonstrated proficiency with data analysis and visualisation tools, with experience in Power BI or a comparable dashboarding platform strongly preferred.

• Hands-on familiarity with generative AI or other AI-enabled productivity tools, together with sound judgement regarding data confidentiality, output validation and responsible use.

• Practical knowledge of Excel and at least one data or automation technology, such as Python, SQL, Power Query or Power Automate.

• An ability to understand business problems, structure data, spot patterns and communicate findings through clear visuals and concise written commentary.

• An interest in financial services, investment funds, regulation, compliance or risk management. Prior industry experience is helpful but not required.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English. Additional European languages would be an advantage.
