Civil Construction Engineer

ACCIONA Energía is seeking a Civil Construction Engineer II to support the construction of renewable energy projects. This role oversees civil construction activities, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with engineering designs, quality standards, contract requirements, and regulatory requirements. The Civil Construction Engineer II serves as a civil construction subject matter expert and works closely with contractors, engineering teams, and project stakeholders to support successful project delivery from construction through commissioning and turnover to operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee contractor and subcontractor civil construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering drawings, ACCIONA QA/QC requirements, contract requirements, applicable codes, and good construction practices.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for civil construction activities, supporting contractor coordination, engineering reviews, and resolution of design, technical, and constructability issues.
• Support the management of civil engineering contractors, including defining requirements and specifications, reviewing engineering drawings, and managing RFIs.
• Monitor contractor progress against the project schedule, identify potential schedule impacts, and communicate recovery recommendations to project management.
• Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly project meetings while maintaining accurate meeting minutes, logs, and project records.
• Create, process, and maintain project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, drawings, job books, inspection records, turnover documentation, and other quality records.
• Lead project quality activities, including managing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), corrective actions, and timely closure of quality issues.
• Support facility tie-ins, start-up, testing, turnover to operations, and final project demobilization, documentation, and closeout activities.
• Monitor safety and environmental compliance and support BUILD SAFE implementation, ensuring personnel and subcontractors meet applicable federal, state, and local requirements, company policies, and training requirements.
• Conduct root cause analyses, identify cost-reduction opportunities, and provide daily reporting, KPI reporting, and other project information to internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist with the training and support of new Construction Engineers.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical field, with 4–6 years of experience in civil engineering or construction engineering; EIT certification preferred.
• Experience in renewable energy, energy facility construction, or utility-scale power generation projects preferred.
• Knowledge of civil construction practices, engineering principles, applicable codes, contract requirements, and quality assurance/quality control standards.
• Experience with AutoCAD and proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; experience with project management and scheduling tools such as MS Project or Primavera is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to analyze and resolve issues in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors, including exposure to varying weather conditions, active construction sites, uneven terrain, and heavy equipment operations; ability to climb vertical ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, and work at heights up to 300 feet.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

 

Pay & Benefits:

• Base Pay: $100,000 to $120,000 (based on experience, education, and skillset).
• 10% Annual Performance Bonus (based on individual performance and company metrics).
• Eligible for company-provided per diem during project deployment periods and a company vehicle for authorized business transportation related to project activities.

Working Conditions:

• Position is project-site based, with occasional rotation to office work, and requires temporary relocation for the duration of construction activities.
• Employees work on a rotational Rest & Recuperation (R&R) schedule designed to support work-life balance during project deployment, with schedules varying based on project needs and construction activities.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, heavy equipment operations, uneven terrain, climbing structures, and working at elevated heights.
