About the Role
The Junior Buyer plays an important role within our Purchasing team, supporting procurement activities that ensure materials are available to meet production demands while maintaining inventory targets and cost objectives. This position offers an excellent opportunity to build experience in purchasing, supply chain management, supplier relations, inventory planning, and manufacturing operations within a growing global company.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing and Order Management
- Issue, modify, and cancel purchase orders to domestic and international suppliers and coordinate with Logistics for pickup.
- Receive order confirmations, update the system, and maintain open order reports.
- Manage the purchase ticket system to handle purchase requests for miscellaneous items.
- Maintain part planning and purchasing parameters (minimum on hand, lot sizes, lead times, cost, etc.) and supplier information in the business system software.
- Analyze material requirements to meet production schedules and maintain inventory targets.
- Resolve material shortages and provide regular updates to Production and Planning associates.
- Coordinate storage and movement of off-site inventories with the Logistics team.
- Manage VMI programs in place with the suppliers.
- Identify potential new suppliers, evaluate suppliers, negotiate and manage qualification process.
- Evaluate supplier performance, discuss vendor scorecards with strategic suppliers on a quarterly basis, arrange vendor audits, and build supplier relationships.
- Manage RMA/warranty issues with suppliers, coordinating shipments of parts for warranty or repair.
- Monitor on-time delivery and expedite shipments when necessary.
- Resolve receiving errors with the Logistics Department and invoice discrepancies and payment issues with the Accounting Department.
- Maintain material SDS sheets as required by the Health and Safety Policy.
- Participate in the material review board to process non-conforming materials.
Required
- Post-secondary education in Materials Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of purchasing experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive relationships internally and externally.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Experience using ERP systems for purchasing, planning, and purchase order processing.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Experience managing Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs.
- Experience with international purchasing and freight coordination.
- Knowledge of import/export documentation and Incoterms.
- Mandarin language skills are considered an asset.
- Experience negotiating with suppliers.
- Experience purchasing within the electronics manufacturing industry.
