We seek individuals with an international profile in music performance and research who will maintain a high level of professional activity and are able to teach and supervise students in all university degree and diploma programs through to the doctoral level. Montreal offers a vibrant multicultural living environment and is consistently rated among the best student cities in the world.

The Department of Performance invites applications from accomplished brass instrumentalists for a tenure-track position in Brass at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2027. We seek an accomplished brass instrumentalist with a specialization in trumpet, although outstanding candidates whose primary expertise is in trombone, horn, or tuba are also encouraged to apply. The appointment will be for an initial three-year term. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor may be considered for an exceptional candidate.

Job Duties:
Academic responsibilities include teaching, research, and service to the University. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active international profile with a high level of professional activity, while teaching and supervising students at the undergraduate, graduate, and diploma levels, including those preparing for professional careers. The position also involves supervision of doctoral students in brass performance as a member of doctoral advisory committees. Teaching responsibilities will include applied instruction and chamber music coaching and may also encompass courses and seminars related to the candidate’s area of expertise, such as brass literature, orchestral excerpts, performance practice, pedagogy, or other specialized topics. Service responsibilities will include leadership and coordination of the Brass Area and may involve participation in departmental and School committees, as well as contributions to curriculum development and program enhancement. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop and sustain a level of artistic activity and/or research consistent with the University's expectations for tenure.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
A doctorate or equivalent professional experience, together with a distinguished international reputation as a performer, is required. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching students at the highest levels of performance and scholarship, broad knowledge of the brass repertoire, and a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and supportive learning environment. The candidate will also contribute to student recruitment and outreach initiatives that engage and inspire emerging musicians. Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and the broader musical community.
