Job Description:

Role Summary

The Senior Director, Global Transportation & Logistics will define and execute the global logistics and distribution strategy to support Fluence’s rapid growth, expected to scale 50–100% over the next 24 months.

This leader will transform and scale a globally distributed logistics organization, ensuring the design and execution of a resilient, cost-efficient, and highly scalable logistics network.

This role operates at the intersection of supply chain strategy, operations, and commercial delivery—owning global logistics performance across transportation, warehousing, trade compliance, and distribution network design.

Key Responsibilities

1. Global Strategy & Network Design

  • Define and implement a multi-year global logistics and warehousing strategy aligned to business growth and manufacturing footprint

  • Lead end-to-end network design including regional distribution strategies, warehouse footprint optimization, and mode/routing strategies

  • Develop scalable logistics models to support hypergrowth and geographic expansion

2. Organizational Leadership & Scale

  • Lead and evolve a globally distributed team (24+), including 8 direct reports, into a multi-layered, high-performing organization

  • Enhance a regionalized operating model (Americas, EMEA, APAC)

  • Build leadership bench strength and centers of excellence (trade compliance, network optimization, systems)

3. Financial Ownership & Cost Transformation

  • Own and manage global logistics spend (+$200MM), including budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization initiatives

  • Deliver year-over-year cost improvements through strategic sourcing, mode optimization, and network redesign

  • Establish KPIs tied to cost, service, and working capital

4. Global Operations Excellence

  • Ensure consistent execution across international transportation, warehousing, customs, and dangerous goods handling

  • Implement standardized global processes and performance management systems

5. Technology & Data Enablement

  • Define and execute logistics technology roadmap (TMS, WMS, visibility tools, control tower)

  • Establish data-driven decision-making through analytics and dashboards

6. Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with global sourcing, manufacturing, project delivery, and commercial teams

  • Ensure logistics strategy enables on-time project delivery and customer satisfaction

7. Risk Management & Compliance

  • Lead global trade compliance strategy including customs and regulatory frameworks

  • Develop risk mitigation strategies for geopolitical disruption, capacity constraints, and supplier concentration

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in global logistics and supply chain leadership

  • Demonstrated success leading global, multi-regional teams

  • Deep expertise in international transportation, warehouse/network design, and trade compliance

  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing large-scale logistics budgets

  • Experience implementing logistics technology platforms (TMS, WMS, visibility tools)

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred

Leadership Profile

  • Strategic, systems-level thinker with operational credibility

  • Proven ability to lead through growth, ambiguity, and transformation

  • Strong executive presence and cross-functional influence

  • Data-driven decision-maker with a continuous improvement mindset
