English Language Development (ELD) Teacher – 2026–2027 School Year
Location: 434 W Lerdo Rd, Tucson, AZ 85706
Start Date: ASAP
Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site
Compensation Range: $44,770. – $50,550.80 (DOE)
Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.
AMS is seeking a passionate and culturally responsive English Language Development (ELD) Teacher to provide high-quality language instruction and support for multilingual learners. The ideal candidate will foster English language acquisition while ensuring students have equitable access to rigorous grade-level content through evidence-based instructional strategies.

Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Achievement
- Deliver standards-aligned English Language Development instruction to multilingual learners.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that support English language acquisition across the domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
- Differentiate instruction based on students' English language proficiency levels and individual learning needs.
- Utilize formative and summative assessment data, including language proficiency data, to guide instructional planning and interventions.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language development across all content areas.
Classroom Culture & Student Support
- Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
- Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies.
- Support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth while fostering confidence in language development.
- Create an inclusive learning environment that values students' cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional leaders, and special programs staff to support multilingual learners.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives that promote equitable outcomes for English learners.
Family Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and language development.
- Partner with families to support English language acquisition and academic success.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school engagement activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, English, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field
OR - Valid Arizona teaching certificate with an ESL/SEI endorsement or other appropriate certification
Additionally, candidates must:
- Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.
- Pass required background checks and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Demonstrate commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities.
- Exhibit knowledge of second-language acquisition strategies and best practices for English learners.
- Show strong analytical skills and enthusiasm for data-driven instruction.
- Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment.
