Akron General’s Rapid Observation Unit is part of the Emergency Department (ED) and provides treatment and evaluation to patients while determining if the patient needs to be admitted to the hospital. As an RN on the team, you will deliver exceptional care, throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed  

 

This role offers the opportunity to positively impact the patient experience as you will 

develop good relationships with patients and have a big impact on their lives and their families. You will also have the opportunity to move into other areas such as the ER, CVI or PACU and climb the clinical ladder. 

 

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide direct nursing care. 

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for a given patient population. 

  • Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.  

  • Develop and update goals, involve patients and families in care and serve as a patient advocate.  

  • Provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document 

  • Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient / family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process. 

  • Delegate tasks, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)  

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) Certification or American Red Cross   

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

  • Cardiac and/or Telemetry experience 

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 


Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
