The Applications Engineer is the technical authority responsible for planning, designing, executing, and continuously improving drilling and well construction solutions. The role ensures flawless service delivery through pre-job engineering, operational support, risk management, job execution, and post-job performance analysis. Working closely with Service Delivery Coordinators, Sales, Technical Support, Product Line Engineering, and customers, the Applications Engineer develops technically sound and commercially optimized solutions while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance. As a senior engineering professional, the role also provides technical leadership, mentors personnel, drives process improvements, supports technology deployment, and contributes to business growth.
As Drilling Applications Engineer - Drilling Services, you will be responsible for:
- Lead the planning, design, execution, evaluation, and continuous improvement of drilling and well construction solutions across the full Manage the Job Cycle (MtJC).
- Develop fit-for-purpose well plans, BHAs, drilling programs, risk mitigation strategies, and contingency plans aligned with customer objectives.
- Perform engineering analyses including torque and drag, hydraulics, ECD, vibration studies, and offset well reviews to optimize operational performance and reduce risk.
- Serve as the technical authority and subject matter expert (SME) for assigned technologies, applications, and complex drilling environments.
- Provide real-time technical support during operations, including troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and operational decision-making.
- Collaborate with Service Delivery Coordinators, Sales teams, Product Lines, and customers to ensure technical, operational, and commercial requirements are fully understood and addressed.
- Identify technical and operational risks, assess application hazards, and implement effective mitigation measures to ensure safe and reliable execution.
- Lead technical reviews, approve engineering designs, and support peer reviews for complex applications and projects.
- Manage and support field incident investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Analyze job performance by comparing planned versus executed results, capturing lessons learned, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support technology deployment, digitalization, standardization, and operational excellence programs to enhance service delivery and customer value.
- Provide technical input for tenders, sales opportunities, customer reviews, and product application recommendations.
- Mentor and develop engineering personnel, fostering competency growth, technical excellence, and knowledge sharing across the organization.
- Support strategic initiatives, business growth, and the commercialization of new technologies and services.
- Ensure compliance with Baker Hughes processes, engineering standards, safety requirements, quality expectations, and regulatory obligations.
