Your Role and Impact 

We’re looking for a Senior Android Engineer to join our Engineering team and help build and evolve HYPR’s Android applications and mobile authentication technology. As a Senior Android Engineer at HYPR, you’ll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining secure, high-quality Android applications that are a critical part of our identity and authentication platform.

You’ll work primarily with Java and Kotlin and collaborate closely with other mobile engineers, backend engineers, QA, Product, and Security teams. You’ll have significant ownership over the features you build, from architecture and technical design through implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and release.

This role is ideal for an experienced Android engineer who has strong computer science fundamentals, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and wants to work on technology where security, reliability, and performance matter.

What You will Do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain native Android applications using Java and Kotlin.
• Build secure, reliable, and scalable mobile functionality used as part of HYPR’s authentication and identity platform.
• Participate in the architecture and technical design of new Android features and capabilities.
• Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and well-tested code.
• Integrate Android applications with backend services using HTTP and REST APIs.
• Integrate and maintain third-party libraries and SDKs, as well as contribute to the development of reusable libraries and components.
• Apply strong object-oriented design principles and computer science fundamentals to solve complex engineering problems.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues, including complex production problems where identifying the root cause quickly is critical.
• Evaluate technical challenges and clearly communicate potential solutions, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and development best practices.
• Collaborate with Engineering, QA, Product, and other teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Use Git and established development workflows to manage and review code.
• Contribute to technical documentation and project planning using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Stay current with Android platform changes, technologies, security practices, and development standards.

What You have Done

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional Android development experience.
• Strong experience developing Android applications using Java and Kotlin.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.
• Strong knowledge of Android architecture, application design patterns, and Android development best practices.
• Experience integrating and developing third-party libraries and SDKs.
• Experience working with HTTP and REST APIs.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify the root cause of complex issues, including under time-sensitive conditions.
• Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges, solutions, and tradeoffs.
• Experience using source control tools such as Git.
• Experience working in a collaborative, team-based engineering environment.
• Experience with project management and documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong written and verbal English proficiency.

Nice to Have

• Experience working in cybersecurity, identity, authentication, or IAM.
• Knowledge of cryptography and authentication protocols, particularly FIDO/FIDO2.
• Experience with WebAuthn, passkeys, passwordless authentication, or public-key cryptography. Understanding of mobile application security and secure coding practices.
• Experience developing or maintaining Android SDKs or libraries used by other applications.

• Full Time Opportunity: Yes
• The core meeting hours for this position are from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Attendance is required for meetings scheduled between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. These meetings may be attended remotely via Zoom. Outside of these scheduled meetings, working hours are flexible. 
• This position is a hybrid role. Employees are required to work in the office a minimum of two days per week—specifically Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The remaining workdays offer flexible remote options.
