Job Description:
This role serves as a senior architecture leader responsible for shaping and driving horizontal architecture strategies across Global Technology. It defines enterprise-wide architecture direction, decision frameworks, and reusable patterns spanning AI, data, cloud, and integration, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned across platforms and lines of business. By partnering closely with CIO architecture, engineering, and risk teams, the role translates complex technology landscapes into clear, actionable guidance that enables consistent and high-quality solution design at scale.
As the bank accelerates AI adoption and platform modernization across Consumer, Wealth, Business Banking, and Markets, this role plays a critical part in ensuring technology investments deliver measurable business value. It enables faster time to market, improves developer and operational efficiency, and strengthens risk and control outcomes by driving consistency, reuse, and alignment. Ultimately, this role ensures that innovation across AI, data, and platforms is executed in a coordinated, scalable, and governed manner — supporting differentiated client experiences and long-term enterprise agility.
This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution that supports the strategic outcomes of the Business' Products and Services. Key responsibilities include defining the target operating environment, designing for client resiliency, assisting with solution design, and defining non-functional requirements. Job expectations include working with stakeholders and service providers aligned to the Business' strategic objectives, evaluating the impact of strategic design decisions, and contributing to the architecture roadmap.
Responsibilities:
- Works across the business, operations and technology to create the solution intent and architectural vision for complex solutions and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements into a technology backlog to enable the technology roadmap and functionality to support evolving capabilities and services
- Contributes to the creation of the architecture roadmap of defined domains (Business, Application, Data, and Technology) in support of the product roadmap and the development of best practices including standardized templates
- Clarifies the architecture, assists with system design to support implementation, and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
- Facilitates solution driven discussions, leads the design of complex architectures, and finds creative solutions through knowledge of domain, practical experiments, and proof of concepts while ensuring architecture is flexible, modular, and adaptable
- Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
- Supports the team as needed to select the technology stack required for solutions and helps select preferred technology products
- Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
- Define and govern enterprise architecture strategy, standards, and decision frameworks across AI, data, cloud, and integration domains.
- Drive consistency through reusable patterns, reference architectures, best practices, and governance processes.
- Ensure solutions align with security, data protection, compliance, and enterprise control requirements.
- Lead AI and data architecture for LLMs, RAG, vector databases, enterprise agents, knowledge retrieval, and workflow automation.
- Establish integration patterns across APIs, events, MCP, gateways, and platform orchestration capabilities.
- Embed secure-by-design principles, including identity management, data flow controls, and resilient architecture practices.
- Evaluate architectural trade-offs across scalability, resilience, security, performance, cost, and business value.
- Guide cloud, hybrid, and on-prem modernization strategies, including platform selection, workload placement, simplification, and standardization.
- Influence and align architecture decisions across CIO organizations, translating complex concepts into clear executive and engineering communications.
- Provide leadership by driving cross-organizational alignment, promoting architectural rigor and reuse, mentoring architects, and connecting technology decisions to business outcomes and risk reduction
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years in enterprise architecture or large-scale solution design
- Experience across AI, data, cloud, and integration domains
- Strong knowledge of AI/ML (LLMs, RAG, vector DBs, agent patterns)
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and modern architectures
- Familiarity with APIs, event-driven systems, and integration platforms (e.g., Kafka, API gateways)
- Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift)
- Exposure to data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks)
- Understanding of security controls (IAM, OAuth2, secrets management)
- Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and IaC (Terraform/Helm)
- Proven ability to drive decisions and influence senior stakeholders in regulated environments
- Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complexity and drive alignment
Desired Qualifications
- Experience leading AI/GenAI architecture and agent-based systems
- Familiarity with Microsoft AI ecosystem (Copilot Studio, Azure AI)
- Knowledge of MCP, AI gateways, and multi-platform orchestration
- Experience with AWS AI services (Bedrock, SageMaker)
- Experience in hybrid cloud environments and enterprise modernization
