Description

[What the role is]

You will be part of the Architecture & Urban Design Group and contribute to URA’s efforts to shape a distinctive, liveable and well-designed Singapore.

The role combines urban planning and design work with the development and delivery of strategic local and international programmes. You will contribute to urban design and public space projects and initiatives, while helping to develop platforms that bring together city leaders, policymakers, planners, designers and other urban practitioners to exchange knowledge, build partnerships and advance discourse on urban development.

You will work across multidisciplinary teams and with government agencies, international partners, professional organisations and other stakeholders. The role requires strong planning and design capabilities, analytical and organisational skills, sound judgement, good stakeholder management and a strong interest in cities and urban development.

[What you will be working on]

Urban Planning & Design

•                     Contribute to the planning and urban design of strategic areas and projects in Singapore, taking into consideration their wider planning context, development objectives, connectivity, public realm and place character.

•                     Develop and evaluate urban design concepts, strategies, guidelines and proposals to achieve high-quality planning and design outcomes.

•                     Undertake urban analysis, site studies and research to understand development context, opportunities and constraints, and translate these into planning and design recommendations.

•                     Review development and design proposals and work with relevant stakeholders to achieve good urban design outcomes.

•                     Support the development and implementation of initiatives to improve the quality, accessibility and activation of public spaces in Singapore, including policy and programme development, research, stakeholder engagement and pilot projects.

•                     Work with public agencies, private-sector partners, communities and other stakeholders to explore opportunities for better-designed, more inclusive and vibrant public spaces.

•                     Contribute to initiatives and studies that advance urban design quality, liveability, placemaking and design excellence in Singapore.

•                     Work across disciplines and with public agencies, developers, consultants and other stakeholders on planning and urban design matters.

Urban Research & Programme Development

•                     Conduct research and analysis on urban planning, urban design, liveability and emerging city issues to inform URA’s work and programme development.

•                     Identify relevant international practices, emerging trends and urban challenges.

•                     Develop programme concepts, themes and content that facilitate meaningful exchange on urban issues and showcase relevant planning and urban development practices.

•                     Prepare briefs, presentations, reports and other materials to support stakeholder engagements and knowledge sharing.

Strategic Programmes & Engagement

•                     Support URA’s participation in major local and international urban platforms, including the World Cities Summit, and develop and deliver associated programmes, engagements, exhibitions and other initiatives.

•                     Shape programme objectives and content to facilitate meaningful exchange on urban planning and design issues.

•                     Coordinate with local and international city governments, planning authorities, professional organisations and other partners in the development and delivery of programmes and initiatives.

•                     Engage city leaders, policymakers, urban practitioners and other stakeholders, and build partnerships that support continued exchange and collaboration on urban issues.

[What we are looking for]

What we are looking for

•                     Relevant experience in urban planning, architecture, urban design or related work.

•                     Strong interest in the physical development of Singapore and contemporary urban planning and design issues.

•                     Good planning and design sensibilities, with the ability to analyse urban contexts and develop well-considered planning and design responses.

•                     Strong analytical and conceptual abilities, with the ability to translate broad objectives into clear proposals, programmes and deliverables.

•                     Good project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines.

•                     Good written, verbal and visual communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear briefs, presentations and reports.

•                     Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills, with confidence engaging people across different organisations and levels of seniority.

•                     Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and remain effective in complex or fast-moving situations.

•                     Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with local and international partners.

Added advantages

•                     Experience in urban design, masterplanning, public space, placemaking or planning-related research.

•                     Experience working on multidisciplinary urban projects involving government agencies, consultants or other stakeholders.
