VP – Axiom Data Technology - Senior Software Engineer

Job Description

The Axiom Data team owns and evolves the enterprise data platform for Blackstone Credit & Insurance (BXCI), connecting deal, issuer, product, financial, and reference data across investment and operational workflows. The team partners closely with the business to integrate upstream sources and business inputs, strengthen data quality, and deliver trusted data through APIs, warehouse tables, and Snowflake to downstream applications and analytics.

We are seeking a hands-on Vice President in Bangalore to take ownership of technical design and delivery while remaining actively involved in AI facilitated coding, testing, and production support. Working with North American and local technologists, product managers, and business and data operations stakeholders, the successful candidate will play a meaningful leadership role in translating complex requirements into reliable software, reusable data services, and scalable platform capabilities.

The role spans cloud-native modernization, web applications, microservices, messaging, and data pipelines, with direct ownership of enhancements to the central data platform for Blackstone Credit & Insurance. It also offers the opportunity to help shape AI-agentic solutions built on centralized warehouse and document data, giving the candidate visibility into high-impact data initiatives across the business. 

Key Responsibilities

·    Own the technical design and end-to-end delivery of Axiom Data capabilities, from requirements and architecture through implementation, testing, release, and production support.

·    Build, maintain, and integrate scalable, reliable, and secure web applications, microservices, APIs, and data pipelines using cloud-native technologies.

·    Develop integrations between Axiom, upstream deal and data platforms such as DealCloud, external feeds, and downstream consumers; maintain clear field mappings and data contracts.

·    Design and enhance data models and distribution through Snowflake, warehouse tables, and APIs, supporting consistent deal, issuer, product, ratings, and financial data.

·    Implement data validation, reconciliation, lineage, and exception-handling controls. Partner with business and data operations teams to resolve discrepancies and protect historical data integrity.

·    Write automated unit, integration, deployment, and performance tests; coordinate UAT and regression testing, including reconciliation across source systems, Axiom, and Snowflake.

·    Drive cloud modernization and operational resilience using AWS, containerization, infrastructure as code, and standard CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins and GitLab Runners.

·    Diagnose and resolve production issues across applications, pipelines, and data services. Improve monitoring, document root causes and support procedures, and automate repetitive tasks.

·    Lead technical design and code reviews, help shape engineering direction, manage delivery using Agile practices and Jira, and communicate dependencies and risks across Bangalore and North American teams.

·    Partner on governed AI-enabled data access and discovery, including metadata-driven chat and agent queries, while preserving access controls and validating results.

·    Mentor engineers, raise engineering standards, and foster a collaborative team culture where ownership, quality, and continuous improvement are expected. Evaluate emerging technologies and use approved AI-assisted tools where they improve quality and productivity.

Qualifications

Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team-driven working group, are highly motivated, intelligent, have sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.        

·    10+ years of proven software engineering experience, with proficiency in C# and/or Python, strong SQL skills, and experience with relational databases and cloud technologies, preferably AWS.

·    An AI-first mindset — hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and agentic tools to accelerate development, and enthusiasm for embedding AI at the core of the products we build.

·    Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features — such as AI agents, tool/function calling, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or prompt engineering — is a strong plus.

·    Experience building data pipelines, integration services, and data models, including validation, reconciliation, and historical or effective-dated data. Snowflake and data warehousing experience are strong advantages.

·    Experience with RESTful API design, scalable microservice architectures, and messaging. Knowledge of GraphQL and event-driven integration is a plus.

·    Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and experience building or integrating web applications, with experience troubleshooting across front-end, services, and data layers.

·    Experience developing scalable, secure, and maintainable code, with a strong background in object-oriented programming.

·    Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, attention to detail, and experience explaining data issues, technical trade-offs, and delivery risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

·    Experience as a hands-on technical lead with ownership of design and delivery, along with a collaborative approach to working with business stakeholders, product managers, UX designers, and other technology leads.

·    Experience with automated unit, integration, regression, and performance testing. Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins or GitLab Runners; Terraform and containerization experience are a plus.

·    A self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude, sound technical judgment, and a desire to mentor others, influence team practices, and learn in a dynamic, globally distributed environment.

·    Experience with financial services, credit markets, deal and security reference data, issuer financials, ratings, or investment operations is a strong plus.

·    Experience with metadata catalogs, data lineage, or governed data access is a plus. Familiarity with AI-assisted development, natural-language data queries, or agent integrations is advantageous.

·    Bachelor's degree (BSc/BA) or above in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
