Senior Tax Manager – Multistate Taxation
Start Date: Q4 2026 or January 2027
Locations: Raleigh, Durham, Wilmington, or Greenville, NC
Work Model: Hybrid (minimum 3 days onsite per week)
TJT is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our growing tax practice with a focus on multistate taxation for partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations. In this leadership role, you'll oversee complex tax engagements for closely held businesses across a variety of industries, including construction, manufacturing, distribution, hospitality, real estate, and professional services.
Working directly with business owners and management teams, you'll provide strategic guidance on multistate tax compliance, planning opportunities, and evolving state and local tax requirements. You'll also serve as a mentor to TJT tax professionals and play an active role in the continued growth of one of the firm's strategic practice areas.
We're looking for a professional with a strong technical foundation in multistate taxation, substantial experience reviewing partnership, S corporation, and C corporation tax returns, and a passion for building lasting client relationships. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex tax issues, developing team members, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients.
What You'll Be Doing
- Review of complex federal, state, and local income tax returns for partnerships, S corporations, and C corporations
- Advise clients on multistate tax matters, including filing requirements, nexus determinations, apportionment methodologies, composite filings, and pass-through entity tax elections and other state and local tax considerations
- Manage client engagements from planning through delivery, ensuring projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing proactive tax planning and consulting services
- Research and analyze complex state tax issues and communicate practical solutions to clients and team members
- Coordinate and review quarterly tax estimates, extensions, tax projections, and year-end planning opportunities for business clients.
- Review and respond to federal and state tax notices and assist clients with audit and examination matters
- Collaborate with TJT partners and firm leadership on client strategy, growth initiatives, and business development opportunities
- Mentor, coach, and develop tax staff and senior associates while assisting with engagement staffing and workflow management
- Monitor changes in federal and state tax legislation and apply new developments to client situations
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients and referral sources

What You Bring
- Minimum of 6 years of public accounting tax compliance experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience reviewing tax returns in a Tax Manager or equivalent leadership role preferred
- Extensive experience with multistate tax compliance, planning and consulting
- Knowledge of nexus, apportionment, state income tax filings, pass-through entity tax elections, and other SALT matters
- Strong experience reviewing partnership (Form 1065), S corporation (Form 1120-S), and C corporation (Form 1120) tax returns
- Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing tax professionals
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field (master's degree preferred)
- Active CPA license strongly preferred
- Excellent communication, relationship management, and project management skills
