Description

Do you enjoy working in a hands-on learning environment and supporting students as they prepare for high-demand careers? As a Federal Work-Study Student Assistant in the Career & Technical Workforce (CTW) Department, you will assist with the daily operation of CTW programs, with particular emphasis on Electrical training, Registered Apprenticeships, and the Advanced Manufacturing and Material Center (AMMC).

In this role, you will help prepare instructional spaces and materials, maintain organized and safe learning environments, support program activities and events, and assist CTW staff with routine administrative and customer-service needs. The successful candidate should be dependable, safety-conscious, organized, and comfortable interacting with students, instructors, employers, and community partners by phone, email, and in person.

Compensation: $13.33/hr.

Position may include one or more of the following duties, or others as assigned:? 

  • Assist with routine cleaning, organization, inspection, and basic maintenance of laboratories, tools, and equipment.
  • Follow established laboratory, classroom, shop, and workplace safety procedures and promptly report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment to the appropriate CTW employee.
  • Assist with monitoring supplies, tools, equipment, materials, and consumable inventories used by Electrical, Apprenticeship, and AMMC programs.
  • Support orientations, employer and advisory meetings, career fairs, tours, demonstrations, outreach activities, and special projects as assigned.

Other responsibilities may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more to perform essential position functions
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments.
  • The potential for exposure to harsh chemicals, bloodborne pathogens & dust/smoke.

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Current LCCC student enrolled in and maintaining a minimum of six credit hours per semester.
  • Eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study Program, as determined by the LCCC Financial Aid Office.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, including established laboratory and workplace safety procedures.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with students, employees, instructors, visitors, and community partners.
  • Ability to work dependably with limited supervision and maintain an agreed-upon work schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Interest in electrical systems, apprenticeship programs, advanced manufacturing, skilled trades, or career and technical education.
  • Previous customer-service, laboratory, workshop, office, or equipment-related experience.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, shop equipment, or workplace safety practices.
