Job Title:  Data Verification - Temporary 
Division:  Regulatory Programs 
Headquarters: To Be Determined 
Reports To:  Produce Safety Program Manager 
Supervisory 
Responsibilities:

FLSA: Non-exempt


NOTE: Temporary Employees are not eligible for benefits and cannot exceed one thousand (1,000) hours worked in a calendar year.

Nature of Work:

Under the direct supervision of the Produce Safety Program Manager, the Data Verification Specialist will work closely with the Data Entry Specialist and be responsible for assisting with the entry, verification, and manipulation of data to fulfill the inventory and verification requirements of the WVDA-FDA Produce Safety CAP grant agreement. This will involve typing and other routine, repetitive, clerical work, as well as phone and potential in-person interactions with the public. The Data Verification Specialist must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Excel to aid in organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data. This position will be remote based with possible occasional in-person travel to TBD locations.

Examples of Work: 

  • Enters (types) data from, scans and saves source documents
  • Reviews entered data to identify errors (duplicates, missing or incorrect information, etc.)
  • Takes appropriate measures to correct identified errors
  • Works with program staff to ensure data accuracy and completeness
  • Manages data to identify verified vs. non-verified contacts and other identified targets
  • Manipulates data to generate list of contacts for verification phone calls, site visits, inspections
  • Assists with the assignment, tracking, and recording of verification calls and site visits
  • Assists growers in determining their Produce exemption status and completion of exemption application
  • Presents data via Excel tables, charts, graphs
  • Becomes familiar with and uses WinWam software program and other programs as needed
  • Maintains essential records
  • Detects hardware malfunctions and notifies supervisor
  • Assists with creation of and maintenance of databases for program information
  • Performs VLOOKUP function in Excel for farm census data management
  • Fulfills data information requests for Executive staff, other program staff, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

Office environment; sitting, standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 25 pounds. Minimal travel with possible overnight status may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of business/office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of software including Microsoft Office (Access, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • General knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and mathematics.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of people with various functions and levels of authority in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and exercise sound judgment.

Qualifications:

Education:  Currently pursuing a high school diploma or college degree in Agriculture, Computer Science, Statistics, or Business Administration preferred.

Experience:  Part-time or full-time experience in a related field preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
  • Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.
