Join us as we work to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.
Position Summary:
Join athenahealth’s Marketing BI team as a Business Intelligence Associate - a highly technical and impactful role focused on building, scaling, and maintaining trusted marketing performance insights.
In this role, you will be responsible for hands-on data manipulation, advanced SQL querying, and high-performance Power BI dashboard development, turning complex commercial and campaign data into actionable insights for our Marketing department. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical professional who possesses strong data management and visualization capabilities to clean, transform, and analyse large-scale marketing campaign and performance data.
About the Team:
The Marketing Operations team enables data-driven decision making across athenahealth’s Marketing organization by developing scalable analytics, reporting, and performance frameworks. The team partners closely with Marketing, Sales, Finance, IT, and Data Engineering to align on go-to-market performance, pipeline measurement, and reporting standards. They manage a broad analytics ecosystem spanning CRM, marketing automation, and enterprise data platforms such as Snowflake and Power BI. The team’s mission is to improve the quality, consistency, and accessibility of insights that drive business growth.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Power BI Development & Visualization: Build, publish, and maintain business-critical Power BI dashboards. Design efficient star-schema data models, establish seamless relationship mappings, and write advanced DAX calculations (using filter context manipulation, time intelligence, and dynamic security rules).
- SQL Data Preparation & Processing: Write, debug, and optimize complex, performant SQL queries (using CTEs, analytical window functions, and multi-table joins) to extract, aggregate, and model raw marketing data from platforms like Snowflake.
- Advanced Data Handling & Auditing: Manipulate and clean massive, complex datasets from Salesforce CRM and marketing platforms. Act as a gatekeeper of data quality by utilizing advanced Excel techniques (Power Query, nested lookups, dynamic arrays) to validate, reconcile, and audit spreadsheet metrics against final dashboards.
- KPI Standardization: Implement and maintain standardized marketing KPI definitions and reporting logic across dashboards to ensure consistent "single source of truth" metrics.
- Legacy Dashboard Rationalization: Reverse-engineer, simplify, and document legacy spreadsheets and Power BI reports to eliminate redundant reporting and improve performance.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Translate marketing business questions into exact technical reporting requirements, presenting data insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Support ad hoc marketing analysis and custom reporting requests across campaigns, segments, and channels.
- Collaborate with broader data and IT teams to validate data flows and ensure business reporting accuracy.
- Promote best practices in query performance, data modelling, and clean visual design within the immediate team.
- Perform thorough QA and data validation testing on all developed dashboards prior to executive rollouts.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
- 5 years of overall experience and 3+ years of Data analytics, Data Visualization and hands-on Data Manipulation using SQL and Excel.
- Advanced SQL expertise, including writing and optimizing queries to gather and process large-scale datasets from Snowflake or similar cloud databases.
- Hands-on experience with data manipulation, lookup functions (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP), and data validation tools to handle large volumes of reporting data.
- Proven experience designing and building user-friendly Power BI reports, including DAX query creation, data modeling, and performance optimization.
Preferred:
- Basic proficiency in Python for data analysis and task automation, combined with a core understanding of data engineering practices to align with technical partners.
- Working experience interacting, engaging, and transforming Salesforce CRM data objects such as Leads, Contacts, Accounts, Opportunities.
- Prior experience in US Healthcare or B2B commercial marketing/sales organizations.
- Familiarity with marketing funnel metrics across prospect lifecycle journey
- Familiarity with marketing automation tools and standard campaign performance metrics.
