San Miguel Power Association (SMPA) is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accountant to join our Finance team.
In this role, you will perform a variety of accounting, payroll, financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and business analysis functions. You will help ensure the accuracy and integrity of SMPA's financial records while supporting internal controls, regulatory reporting, and the preparation of accurate financial information for management and operational planning.
What You'll Do
- Process bi-weekly payroll and required reporting.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end accounting activities.
- Assist with budgeting, expenditure analysis, and cash management.
- Prepare tax, regulatory, and compliance reports.
- Support strong internal accounting controls and procedures.
- Provide backup support for key accounting functions within the department.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Accounting experience with knowledge of GAAP and general accounting practices.
- Experience with payroll, financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance reporting.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with accounting systems, spreadsheets, and other business software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Experience in the electric utility industry and knowledge of RUS accounting requirements are preferred.

This is a non-exempt position with the ability to telecommute up to 50% of the time per SMPA policy and will require occasional travel.
