About the role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive AML Compliance Analyst to support Sezzle’s Compliance Team. This role provides second-line oversight and day-to-day advisory support across a wide range of business activities by translating regulatory requirements into practical guidance, executing operational compliance reviews, and producing governance-ready documentation and reporting. This role plays a critical part in ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and supporting the development of internal policies, standards and procedures, while fostering a culture of integrity and accountability across the organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide compliance advisory support to business partners on consumer finance and payments requirements; document guidance, decisions, and follow-ups.
  • Support the intake, tracking, and completion of Compliance Operations, Advisory, and Financial Crimes Compliance work (advisory requests, reviews, alerts/cases, and actions) using defined workflows and evidence standards.
  • Perform second-line oversight reviews of complaint handling for higher-risk channels (e.g., CFPB, BBB, and executive escalations) and contribute to complaint trend and root-cause analysis.
  • Support issues management governance by maintaining issue/action logs, validating remediation plans and evidence, and monitoring aging to closure.
  • Participate in change management oversight by reviewing initiatives for compliance impacts, control readiness, and required approvals/escalations.
  • Conduct pre-use compliance reviews of marketing and customer communications; identify required disclosures and risks (e.g., UDAAP, fair lending) and document results.
  • Assist with product development compliance assessments for new products and material initiatives; coordinate inputs, maintain risk/control documentation, and track conditions for launch.
  • Support third-party compliance activities for customer-facing vendors (e.g., due diligence documentation support, contract requirement tracking, ongoing monitoring).
  • Support Financial Crimes Compliance operations, including BSA/AML transaction monitoring, alert and case review, and disposition consistent with established procedures.
  • Assist with sanctions/OFAC screening and watchlist management, including reviewing potential matches, documenting dispositions, and escalating true or probable matches.
  • Support Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence/Enhanced Due Diligence (CDD/EDD) activities, including identity-verification exceptions, remediation of identity defects, and program control testing.
  • Assist in the preparation, documentation, and quality review of Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) narratives and supporting evidence, coordinating with investigators and escalating as appropriate.
  • Advise business, product, and operations partners on financial crimes requirements and control expectations for new and existing products, and document guidance and decisions.
  • Support responses to subpoenas and regulatory information requests, including FinCEN Section 314(a) inquiries.
  • Prepare clear written memos and governance-ready summaries (metrics, themes, escalations) for leadership and partner reporting.
  • Assist in gathering and delivering relevant information for internal and external regulatory reviews, examinations, audits, or other supervisory events.
  • Support additional compliance-related initiatives and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of working independently or collaboratively.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks, laws, and compliance requirements applicable to consumer financial products and services, including financial crimes requirements (BSA/AML, USA PATRIOT Act, and OFAC/sanctions).
  • Experience in compliance operations/advisory, risk management, quality assurance, or other control/oversight activities (planning, documentation, analysis, and reporting).
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear documentation, memos, and evidence packages.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively across multiple workstreams.
  • Analytical thinker with sound judgment and a proactive mindset; able to recommend practical solutions that mitigate risk and strengthen controls.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels and provide effective challenge and recommend practical solutions to mitigate risk and enhance controls.
  • High integrity, sound ethical judgment, and comfort escalating concerns when needed.
  • Working knowledge of Financial Crimes Compliance operations - transaction monitoring, alert/case management, sanctions screening, CIP/CDD, and SAR processes - or a demonstrated ability to learn them quickly.
  • Comfort working with high-volume data and structured review workflows.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of working independently or collaboratively in a fast-moving environment.

Education & Experience

  • A BS/BA degree or higher in accounting, finance, business administration, legal studies, information systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in consumer finance, fintech, banking, or another regulated environment preferred.
  • Financial industry compliance related certifications a plus (e.g. CAMS)
  • Experience supporting complaint management oversight, issues management, change management, marketing review, product compliance assessments, financial crimes compliance (BSA/AML, sanctions, CIP/CDD, and SAR support), or third-party oversight is highly desirable.

About You:

  • You have relentlessly high standards - many people may think your standards are unreasonably high. You are continually raising the bar and driving those around you to deliver great results. You make sure that defects do not get sent down the line and that problems are fixed so they stay fixed.
  • You’re not bound by convention - your success—and much of the fun—lies in developing new ways to do things
  • You need action - speed matters in business. Many decisions and actions are reversible and do not need extensive study. We value calculated risk-taking.
  • You earn trust - you listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully.
  • You have backbone; disagree, then commit - you can respectfully challenge decisions when you disagree, even when doing so is uncomfortable or exhausting. You have conviction and are tenacious. You do not compromise for the sake of social cohesion. Once a decision is determined, you commit wholly.
  • You deliver results - you focus on the key inputs and deliver them with the right quality and in a timely fashion. Despite setbacks, you rise to the occasion and never settle.

What Makes Working at Sezzle Awesome:

At Sezzle, we are more than just brilliant engineers, passionate data enthusiasts, out-of-the-box thinkers, and determined innovators. We believe in surrounding ourselves with only the best and the brightest individuals. Our culture is not defined by a certain set of perks designed to give the illusion of the traditional startup culture, but rather, it is the visible example living in every employee that we hire.
