About the Job: The purpose of this position is to provide advanced systems administration and Tier III technical support with considerable independence, initiative, and sound technical judgment. This position supports, maintains, and improves Microsoft cloud and enterprise services; troubleshoots and resolves complex or escalated technical issues; and contributes to the security, reliability, governance, and operational continuity of supported systems.
The Systems Administrator II develops and maintains repeatable administrative practices and technical documentation, participates in the design and implementation of technology solutions, coordinates with vendors and technical partners as needed, and provides technical guidance and cross-training to other staff.
This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As a Systems Administrator II, you will:
- Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft cloud and enterprise technology services, including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Azure, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and related platforms.
- Administer identity and access services, including user and group lifecycle management, authentication, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Conditional Access, role-based access, and privileged access.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex Tier III incidents involving cloud services, identity, access, authentication, messaging, collaboration platforms, integrations, and enterprise applications.
- Administer and support Windows and hybrid infrastructure, including Active Directory, Group Policy, and related enterprise services as assigned.
- Monitor system health, service availability, logs, alerts, and security events; investigate issues and coordinate response or escalation as appropriate.
- Implement and maintain secure system configurations, administrative controls, and access practices consistent with City standards and security requirements.
- Plan, test, implement, and document system configuration changes, service improvements, upgrades, and technology deployments.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts, automation, and other administrative tools to improve reliability, consistency, and efficiency.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, configuration standards, and knowledge resources.
- Participate in Microsoft 365 and Azure tenant governance, including service configuration, change management, feature evaluation, and operational standards.
- Coordinate technical troubleshooting and escalations with Microsoft, vendors, and other technology partners.
- Provide technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and cross-training to other IT staff.
- Participate in incident, problem, change, and request management processes and maintain accurate technical records in the appropriate IT service management system.
- Manage multiple technical priorities and assignments while following work through to resolution and communicating status, risks, and impacts to appropriate stakeholders.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
- Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
- Microsoft Entra ID identity, access, authentication, Conditional Access, and privileged access.
- Azure administration, governance, monitoring, and security.
- Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and hybrid identity.
- PowerShell automation for Microsoft and enterprise systems.
- Enterprise security principles: least privilege, secure configuration, logging, auditing, data protection.
- Application integrations (SSO, authentication, app registrations, service principals, API permissions).
- System monitoring, troubleshooting, incident investigation, and IT service management.
- Work independently with strong technical judgment.
- Troubleshoot complex issues and assess operational, security, and business impacts.
- Plan and implement technical changes with proper risk, testing, communication, and rollback steps.
- Automate tasks and improve processes.
- Create clear technical documentation.
- Communicate complex information to all audiences.
- Mentor IT staff and collaborate across teams and partners.
- Manage priorities and complete technical work.
- Continuously grow skills in Microsoft cloud and enterprise technologies.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study Three (3) years of full-time, professional experience in a related field
- Experience administering or supporting:
- Microsoft 365 enterprise services, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive.
- Microsoft Entra ID, including identity and access management, MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication), Conditional Access, role-based access, and privileged access.
- Microsoft Azure services and cloud resources.
- Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server, or hybrid Microsoft environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Intune and modern endpoint management.
- Experience using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, APIs, or other scripting and automation tools for systems administration.
- Experience supporting enterprise security, compliance, monitoring, or governance capabilities within Microsoft cloud environments.
- Experience troubleshooting complex or escalated enterprise technology issues and coordinating resolution across technical teams or vendors.
- Relevant Microsoft, Azure, security, or other industry certifications.
