Description
Summary
Our client is an established Southern California general contractor and electrical contractor with more than 30 years of experience delivering private and public construction projects throughout California and select locations in Arizona. Their work includes manufacturing, aerospace, municipal, education, healthcare, and other complex commercial and industrial projects. They are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator with a strong technical and analytical background to support the development of accurate and competitive estimates for commercial, industrial, and public works projects. An engineering background is highly valued for this position, and candidates with strong technical knowledge and estimating potential will be considered. A PE license is welcome but not required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial, industrial, institutional, and public works construction projects.
- Review project plans, specifications, drawings, bid documents, scopes of work, and contract requirements.
- Analyze project requirements and develop accurate material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overall project cost estimates.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and evaluate construction methods, materials, labor requirements, and project logistics.
- Solicit and analyze subcontractor and vendor bids.
- Review subcontractor proposals and identify scope gaps, exclusions, discrepancies, and potential risks.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
- Assist with developing bid strategies and identifying opportunities for cost savings and value engineering.
- Prepare estimates, bid summaries, and supporting documentation for management review.
- Research material pricing, labor costs, subcontractor pricing, and market conditions.
- Review project schedules and construction sequencing to understand cost and resource impacts.
- Identify potential constructability issues and provide technical input during the estimating process.
- Assist with change order pricing, budget development, and other project cost analysis as needed.
- Maintain organized estimating documentation and ensure estimates are accurate, complete, and submitted within required deadlines.
- Support preconstruction activities and project handoff from estimating to project management and field operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field preferred.
- Experience in construction estimating, preconstruction, engineering, project management, or a closely related field.
- Strong understanding of commercial and industrial construction methods, materials, and project requirements.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, plans, and technical documents.
- Experience with quantity takeoffs, cost estimating, subcontractor bidding, and proposal analysis.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to identify scope gaps, discrepancies, and potential project risks.
- Strong understanding of construction costs, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with estimating and construction software preferred.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Procore, Excel, or similar platforms preferred.
- PE license is welcome but not required.
- Electrical construction experience is beneficial but not required for candidates with strong engineering or construction estimating experience.
- Must be able to work fully onsite in Brea, CA.
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
