Description
This is a hybrid role based in NY, NY. US work authorization is required.
About VIATechnik:
VIATechnik is on a mission to lead the built environment in creating a better future, today. We are one team of over 500 digital experts around the globe. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed architects, engineers, tradespersons, researchers, and business leaders. Together, we empower clients through high-quality, high-velocity experiences that consistently improve outcomes across the design, construction, and operations of buildings and infrastructure. Our clients include Amazon, Mars Wrigley, and National Geographic, the firms shaping the world's most ambitious projects.
The Role
Studio X helps bridge the gap between design and what actually gets built in the field. As Senior VDC Manager, you'll work directly with our NYC general contractor clients to take BIM coordination beyond the model and make sure the final result works in the field.
You'll lead a team of BIM specialists and coordinators, work closely with the Studio Lead, and help establish the processes and standards we can use as the team grows.
What You'll Own
- Take ownership of a portfolio of active general contractor relationships and transition into those accounts during your first 90 days.
- Build strong relationships that lead to repeat and multi-project work.
- Establish a consistent BIM-to-field workflow across active projects.
- Develop VDC Managers and Engineers into roles with greater responsibility.
- Deliver projects on time and within budget while maintaining strong client relationships.
How You'll Spend Your Time
- Lead weekly multi-trade coordination meetings with general contractors, subcontractors, and equipment providers and work through issues as they come up.
- Manage project schedules, staffing plans, and budget projections across multiple projects.
- Serve as the primary contact for general contractor leadership and turn technical coordination issues into clear, actionable decisions.
- Coach VDC Managers and Engineers through project challenges and client interactions.
- Identify recurring coordination issues and turn them into processes and playbooks the broader team can use.
- Travel to jobsites, especially on large-scale projects such as high-rises, to meet with project teams and verify field conditions.
- Help with estimating and scoping change orders and additional work for existing clients.
You'll Thrive Here If
- You've led multi-trade BIM coordination on complex commercial or infrastructure projects and are comfortable working with both the technical and client-facing sides.
- You're someone who sees a problem developing and takes ownership of getting it resolved rather than waiting for a process to catch it.
- You enjoy working directly with general contractor leadership and project teams.
- You've coached or mentored VDC Managers or Engineers and want to continue developing people.
- You're comfortable getting out to jobsites and validating field conditions when the project requires it.
Why This Role
You'll be working on complex, high-profile projects, including high-rises, stadiums, and large-scale infrastructure. The coordination decisions you make will have a direct impact on how the project gets built, including schedule, cost, and constructability.
You'll also have the opportunity to build long-term relationships with general contractors and develop the people on your team. As Studio X grows, that experience can lead to larger account ownership and people leadership opportunities.
We value people who take ownership and make decisions. You'll work directly with clients, make field-level decisions, and see the results of your work on active jobsites.
Our Culture
Studio X moves at the pace of the jobsite. Priorities can change quickly when a clash shows up during construction or a general contractor needs an answer from the field.
We expect people to take ownership. If something is wrong in the model, you're expected to help fix it and be straightforward with the client about what happened.
This role is a good fit for someone who likes working directly with clients, solving problems as they come up, and helping build the process along the way. It's not a role where you'll be working from a fixed playbook every day.
The Deal
Studio X is looking for a Senior VDC Manager who can take ownership of our largest general contractor relationships - from the model, to the jobsite, to the client relationship.
In return, you'll have a direct role in how some of the industry's most complex projects are coordinated and built, regular access to general contractor leadership, and opportunities to take on larger accounts or people leadership as the company grows.
You'll build the relationship. You'll own the work. And you'll see the results in the field.
