A Brief Overview
This position is responsible for the oversight and direction of the financial and managerial accounting, reporting activities, financial planning and business analytics, revenue accounting within the Health System to include the coordination, mentoring and oversight of managers of accounting and systems analysts working on and with information systems used in these activities. Responsible for operationalizing the vision for turning data into information that is readily available, easily found, and easily re-usable by the user community.
What you will do
- Oversee and direct the monthly financial accounting incorporating FASB and other regulatory requirements into the organization’s internal financial statements. Direct the external audit process with all parties of the organization including Board members, Senior Leadership and others as required
- Coordinate the financial reporting, analytics and planning activities of the organization including the implementation of enterprise-wide processes for development of business analytics to support short and long-term plans and measurement of performance; the development of key financial and operating assumptions and other relevant factors used in the development of the financial planning and analytics; and, the incorporation of approved annual targets and metrics into the short-term and long range planning and financial forecasts of the organization
- Assist the CFO with administrative support to the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board and special projects; act on behalf of the CFO in his/her absence
- Function as the Department Head for the Financial Services and Business Analytics departments by coordinating goals, objectives, continuing education needs and budgetary requirements for all departmental personnel
- Develop, implement, and advocate the production and use of information in support of business development, managerial activities, and decisions. Develop financial analysis tools that can be updated routinely with new information (market analyses, reimbursement information, financial requirements, etc.) that can be utilized by those leaders throughout the organization for business development and analytics
- Continually evaluate the financial information systems needs of the organization working with information specialists both in Finance and Information Systems to enhance, improve and/or replace systems as required such that the systems utilized allow all users to be as informed and productive as possible
- In cooperation with both leaders coordinate the overall use of the decision support process and/or system, including database design, interfaces, and reporting mechanisms. Lead this group in the development of system data management plans that will deliver accurate, timely, consistent, and quality clinical data
- Support the Data Governance Committee for the Health System through the Managers of Decision Support and Budget. This should drive the development of data management policies and practices to support the mission of the Health System
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university with major emphasis on accounting and business administration Required
- Master's Degree in Business Administration Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- A minimum of ten years of experience in financial management, accounting and reimbursement with a history of increasing responsibility and authority Required
- Previous experience as a director of finance, corporate controller, senior financial analyst, or reimbursement manager for a diversified health system of similar size/complexity Required
- Healthcare experience Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to apply financial management and accounting principles, including FASB/GASB standards, in alignment with organizational mission
- Strong analytical and oral/written communication skills across all organizational levels
- Proven ability to independently plan, manage, and evaluate daily operations and long-term, complex projects while meeting deadlines
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and experience with data warehouse and analytics tools (e.g., Microsoft BI, Tableau)
- Thorough knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle, reimbursement, managed care, and regulatory requirements across care settings
- Experience with healthcare benchmarking, performance metrics, statistical risk modeling, and predictive analytics
- Ability to prioritize work, exercise sound judgment, and coordinate collaborative efforts without direct supervisory authority
- High proficiency with standard office technology and computer applications
- Action-oriented, self-motivated professional with strong confidence, organizational skills, and ability to engage senior leadership
- Demonstrated commitment to the Health System’s mission, vision, and values
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Public Accountant - American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Preferred or
- Certified Management Accountant - Institute of Management Accountants Preferred
