Description
1) SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Assist to monitor mothers and babies well being and detect any abnormalities during pregnancy.
Assist doctor in conducting delivery.
Responsible for post natal personal hygiene and their comfort.
2) JOB REQUIREMENT
Organization & Management
Understands and carries out the nursing care in line with Vision and Mission, philosophy, Goals and Objectives that suit the scope of the Nursing Services and the hospital.
Works shift duties or as assigned by Unit Manager according to Unit’s Operational Hours.
Informs Unit Manager/RN when change occurs in circumstances that affect standards of care.
Receives report of the patients, provides individualized holistic patient care as assigned by the Registered Nurse/ Nurse In-Charge.
Conducts regular nursing rounds on all patients in the ward to ascertain for other additional needs; talk to patient/family members as an integral part of providing emotional support.
Assists the registered nurse in:
- Monitor patients’ vital signs, record and report accordingly.
- Performing simple dressing as ordered by the doctor.
- Admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
- Collection of specimens, dispatch them to the laboratory and brings back the result.
- Taking diet orders for the new admission see to change of diet order for discharged, post-operative and expired patient.
- Measuring and recording intake and output chart.
Supervises dietary staff in serving meals/ help to feed patient orally or by tube.
- Establish the highest standard of nursing care.
- Smooth workflow which produces quality nursing care.
- Establish a good working environment in which patients receive a high standard of care.
- Maintain standard of nursing care and good rapport with patient and family.
Follows consultants’ round if the registered nurse is not available.
Assists consultant in doing procedures and resuscitation of patient in emergency situation.
Assist the Unit Manager / Nurse In-Charge:
- Keep accurate record of linen, equipment and medical supplies.
- Sorts out old linen and equipment’s for condemn if applicable.
Check patient’s charges are charged accordingly and for completeness.
Attends meetings held by the services in order to discuss issues and matters pertaining to the operation of the service.
Human Resource & Development
Takes personal responsibility for own professional development and keeps up to date with professional change and growth by maintaining mandatory learning hours.
Participates in the orientation of new members of staff to the ward routine.
Involves in the supervision of the lower categories of staff, e. g Care Assistants.
Participates actively in any other new service that is introduced.
Maintain the record of personal leave and training attended.
Policies & Procedures
Adheres to the hospital policies and procedure and nursing code of conduct.
Contributes suggestions in periodic revision and upgrading of Nursing Policies and Procedures and relevant work instructions.
Ensure all staff complies with Prevention and Control of Infection including implementation of surveillance activity in the unit and evidence of involvement.
Maintain confidentiality of patient’s personal and medical history.
Checks daily and audits resuscitation trolley periodically as scheduled.
Facilities & Equipment
Operates / maintains the biomedical equipment assigned to the unit and provides assistance / guidance to new staff in their use.
Assists the Unit Manager in keeping accurate records of equipment, medical supplies and drugs in the unit / ward.
Checks that all equipment in the ward are functioning well and service according to PPM schedule.
Report to Bio Medical personnel if any faulty and takes necessary action accordingly.
Assists in maintenance of instruments and equipment by proper cleaning, handling, disinfect and utilizing as directed.
Safety & Quality Improvement Activites
Fully receptive and supportive in the activities that contribute towards continuous improvement of nursing service e.g. Quality Assurance, Infection Control and Fire and Safety Program.
Conduct investigation and root cause analysis in any incident in the services, takes appropriate action and ensure completion of incident reports within stipulated time frame.
Carries out duties as an employee as stipulated in Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994:-
- To take reasonable care at work for the safety of yourself and other persons;
- To co-operate with your employer or any other person in the discharge of any duty;
- To wear or use any protective equipment or clothing provided by the employer;
- To comply with any instruction or measure on occupational safety and health.
Ensures compliance of Patient safety goals as safety improvement measures recommended by World Alliance for Patient Safety.
Ensures the policies on Patient and Family’s Rights are addressed at all times.
Complies with the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative Breastfeeding Policy, and protect, promote and support Baby Friendly Hospital activities.
Participates in 5S activities and comply with the specified requirements.
Ensures all staff adheres to Standard People Practice (SPP) at all times.
Ensure all policies and procedures of ISO 37001 Anti Bribery Management System (ABMS) are adhered to and responsible for integrity principles, practice and activities at hospitals & companies if and when these programs are implemented.
3) ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist to monitor and assess the progress of antenatal mothers in the ward:
- Abdominal palpation for presentation and movement of the fetus.
- Timing contractions.
- Listen to fetal heart.
- CTG monitoring.
- Performs vaginal examination when necessary.
To report if there any abnormalities detected.
Carries out daily routine examination of mother’s weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration.
Assist to observe if there is leaking liquor, vaginal bleeding, show or any early rupture of membrane.
Helps to record intake and output chart.
Responsible to monitor closely for surgery.
Helps to send patients to operation theatre and fetch back after surgery.
Perform vulva swabbing, care of episiotomy wound.
Check fundal height of Uterus, bladder and lochia.
Encourages and assists mothers with breastfeeding.
Gives health talks on the diet, post natal exercise, care of episiotomy wound, advantages of breastfeeding, care of newborn, immunizations and birth spacing, remind mother the importance of follow-up.
Prepares to teach, interpret and provide support as an integral part of her services when conducting Home Nursing to postnatal mother.
4) JOB REQUIREMENT
State of midwife Division II Valid license to practice as a Midwife.
Able to communicate fluently and write in English language and Bahasa Malaysia.
Experience working in hospital based.
Have interpersonal and communication skills.
Caring, honest and responsible worker.
Willingness to work on scheduled hours, shift, and weekends, public holidays, on-call and anytime when called during emergency.
Has good communication, counseling and interpersonal skills.
Able to guide Care Assistant, student nurse and other related nursing support staff.
Possess the attitude to make the patient care the primary concern, treating every patient compassionately, demonstrating and an aspiration to altruism.
Seek to treat, maintain patient’s dignity, privacy, autonomy and confidentiality.
Prepared to work as a team member.
