As part of our continued growth and commitment to excellence, we are seeking an Associate Director of Construction Operations to support the successful execution and growth of AlffCo's construction operations. This role provides senior-level operational leadership for commercial construction projects, working closely with internal teams, General Contractors (GCs), subcontractors, clients, and company leadership.

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction professional with a strong background in project delivery, construction operations, contractor management, and multiple skilled trades. This individual is entrepreneurial, self-motivated, disciplined, and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining exceptional standards for quality, safety, financial performance, and customer service.

The Associate Director of Construction Operations will work closely with the Director of Construction Operations and other senior leaders to ensure projects are executed successfully, construction processes are continuously improved, and clients receive reliable, high-quality service. This position provides an opportunity for expanded leadership responsibilities as AlffCo continues to grow.

Essential Functions of the Role

Construction Operations & Project Oversight

  • Assist the Director of Construction Operations in the oversight and operational support for commercial construction projects from planning through completion.
  • Assist leading and coordination internal employees, General Contractors, subcontractors, and trade professionals to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to established quality standards.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, scope, milestones, and deliverables and proactively address issues that may impact project performance.
  • Support the development and implementation of consistent construction processes, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Assist in prioritizing construction resources and ensuring appropriate staffing and contractor support across projects.

Trades Integration

  • Apply strong knowledge of multiple construction trades, including electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, carpentry, and general construction.
  • Provide technical guidance and operational support when evaluating construction, service, repair, and maintenance requirements.
  • Assist project teams in identifying the appropriate trade, resources, materials, and approach required to successfully complete work.
  • Review project scopes and work orders to identify potential construction challenges, cost considerations, and operational risks.

Project Management

  • Collaborate with the Director of Construction Operations in the oversight and support the full lifecycle of assigned commercial construction projects.
  • Review project plans, scopes of work, schedules, budgets, proposals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with project managers, field personnel, clients, contractors, and vendors to maintain project momentum.
  • Monitor project performance and assist in resolving scope, schedule, quality, and cost issues.
  • Ensure project closeout activities, documentation, punch lists, and client expectations are properly completed.

Financial Management

  • Support financial performance of construction projects through effective budgeting, pricing, bidding, forecasting, and job-cost management.
  • Monitor project profitability, labor costs, material costs, subcontractor expenses, and other project-related expenditures.
  • Review project financial results and identify opportunities to improve margins and operational efficiency.
  • Assist leadership in developing construction budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide, in collaboration with the Director of Construction Operations, leadership, coaching, and direction to construction and project team members.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, communication, and professional development.
  • Assist in developing construction teams, processes, and organizational capabilities as the department grows.
  • Partner with leadership on workforce planning, hiring, performance management, and team development.
  • Serve as a resource for project managers and field teams when complex operational or construction issues arise.

Strategic Support & Reporting

  • Work closely with the Director of Construction Operations and senior leadership to provide regular updates regarding construction operations, project performance, risks, financial results, and opportunities.
  • Identify operational challenges and recommend practical solutions.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies to improve construction processes, efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Analyze construction performance and recommend improvements based on operational and financial data.

Quality Assurance

  • Support the development and implementation of quality standards and procedures for construction operations.
  • Monitor projects to ensure work meets AlffCo standards, client expectations, project specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Identify recurring quality issues and assist in developing corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify, evaluate, and help mitigate risks associated with construction projects.
  • Ensure construction activities are conducted in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Support compliance with OSHA, safety, building code, contractual, and company requirements.
  • Escalate significant project risks, safety concerns, contractual issues, or financial exposures to appropriate leadership.

Client & Contractor Relations

  • Maintain proactive and professional communication with clients throughout the construction process.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, General Contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in client meetings and project reviews as needed.
  • Help resolve client concerns and ensure issues are addressed promptly and professionally.
  • Represent AlffCo's commitment to quality, reliability, communication, and customer service.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
  • Adhere to and promote AlffCo's values, standards, and expectations for professionalism.
  • Support projects that may require occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Travel to project locations as required.
  • Maintain a professional and solutions-oriented approach when working with employees, clients, contractors, and vendors.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5–8 years of construction management or related construction operations experience.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in a supervisory, project management, or senior construction leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing commercial construction projects and coordinating multiple contractors and trades.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.

Financial Management

  • Experience with construction budgeting, estimating, pricing, bidding, forecasting, and job costing.
  • Understanding of project profitability and financial performance.
  • Experience reviewing project financials and identifying cost-control opportunities.
  • Experience with P&L or departmental budget management preferred.

Leadership Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead project teams, contractors, subcontractors, and trade professionals.
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and team-development skills.
  • Ability to establish accountability while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Experience helping build or improve construction teams, processes, and departments.

Technical Proficiency

  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, sequencing, and project execution.
  • Proficiency with construction management and project management software.
  • Ability to review plans, scopes of work, project documentation, schedules, and estimates.

Trades Knowledge

  • Demonstrated technical construction experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of multiple trades, including:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial construction, facility maintenance, or the facility services industry.

  • Experience with General Contractors and subcontractor networks.
  • OSHA certification or other relevant construction safety certification.
  • Experience with revenue-generating construction or service operations.

Computer Skills

  • Construction Management Software: Proficiency with platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar tools for project planning, document management, and team collaboration.
  • Scheduling Software: Experience with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar project scheduling platforms.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Competence with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions; experience with Power BI or Tableau preferred.
  • Mobile Applications: Familiarity with mobile applications for work order management, GPS tracking, project communication, and field operations, such as Samsara or Service Channel.
  • CRM Systems: Experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce for client and vendor management.
  • Document Management: Knowledge of SharePoint, Google Workspace, or similar platforms.
  • Communication Platforms: Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Slack, Zoom, or similar communication tools.
