Job Title:
Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will provide specialist geotechnical engineering services across the mining, infrastructure, property and buildings sectors, with a particular focus on mine waste, tailings facility investigations, geotechnical site investigations and multidisciplinary project delivery. The role will involve supporting geological and geotechnical projects from investigation, analysis and interpretation through to reporting, recommendations and technical delivery. The successful candidate will also be responsible for client engagement, proposal development and contributing to the successful delivery of multidisciplinary projects. In addition, the role will involve providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate professionals while ensuring high-quality, safe and commercially sound project outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage geological and geotechnical projects, including multidisciplinary projects, tailings facility site investigations, infrastructure and building projects.
- Plan, manage and support geotechnical site investigations, fieldwork activities and geotechnical analysis programmes.
- Interpret geological and geotechnical data, conduct analysis, and develop technically sound conclusions and recommendations.
- Prepare proposals, tenders, technical reports, project deliverables, presentation materials and client-facing documentation.
- Characterise ground conditions and engineering materials to support design and project decision-making.
- Develop project methodologies, scopes of work and cost estimates for proposals.
- Conduct field observations and prepare geological and geotechnical reports.
- Apply sound engineering judgement when adapting methodologies, approaches and technical solutions.
- Work closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to support integrated project delivery.
- Provide technical guidance, supervision, mentoring and knowledge-sharing to technicians, junior professionals, intermediate engineers and engineering geologists.
- Support client engagement and business development activities, including engaging with potential clients regarding mining engineering opportunities.
- Prepare practical and technically competent reports, documents and proposals for review by senior or principal professionals.
- Contribute to the implementation of corporate HSSE and SHEQ programmes across field and office teams.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering would be advantageous.
- Minimum of 8 years’ post-graduate experience in geotechnical engineering; 10+ years of relevant experience would be advantageous.
- Professional registration with ECSA is required.
- Extensive experience in geotechnical investigations, including factual and interpretive reporting.
- Significant geotechnical consultancy experience within the mining sector; experience in oil and gas, infrastructure or related sectors would be advantageous.
- Strong technical knowledge and practical application of soil and rock mechanics.
- Proven experience using geotechnical software for engineering analysis and problem-solving.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent technical writing, diagrammatic, verbal communication and English report-writing skills.
- Strong interpersonal and client relationship management skills, with the ability to build and maintain trusted working relationships.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience delivering large, medium and small-scale projects across a range of sectors.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervision and mentoring capabilities.
