Description

Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire a Security Officer Lead. The Public Works Security Officer, Lead is a lead position primarily responsible for assisting in managing the security functions assigned to the Boulder County Public Works Security Staff, including worksite security, scheduling, electronic door access, security alert system maintenance, emergency procedures, and related issues. This position reports to the Public Works Security Manager and works directly with the Security Manager in various job functions.
This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. This position will work out of 515 Coffman St, Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $52,008.00 - $60,318.00 Annually
Tentative Hiring Timeline:
- Phone Screening: Week of August 31st

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify). Makes rounds of interiors and exteriors of assigned county buildings, checking for general security Guards against theft and destruction of property Questions persons in unauthorized areas and escorts them from area or building, if necessary Reports unusual behavior or problems to proper authorities as appropriate Assists county employees and the public by providing information regarding security, as well as county facilities, programs and services, in person, in writing and over the phone Assists in administering door access systems for all county facilities, with the exception of prisoner control areas, such as the county jail Assists with training, planning and response to emergency situations Calls for emergency medical assistance for ill and injured persons if necessary Issues tickets for parking ordinance violations and discuss nature of violation with motorists as necessary Delivers deposits from county offices to designated banks Performs general courier duties for county departments, as needed Assists in hiring, training and guiding security officers, ensuring effective performance and adequate coverage of security functions Oversees daily operations of assigned sites and officers Evaluates the effectiveness of security operations at assigned sites and recommends improvements to security supervisor Acts as liaison between County departments/building occupants and local law enforcement Notifies supervisor of incident trends and requests for service and offers suggestions Assists supervisor in performance appraisals and disciplinary actions of lower-level employees Performs related work, as required May be reassigned in emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of:
- A high school diploma, or equivalent
AND
- 2 (two) years of experience in building security work
Additional related education may count towards required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must have current CPR certification at the time of hire
- Applicants must pass a drug test
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1 (one) year of security experience in a lead capacity
- De-escalation skills, training and techniques
- Working knowledge of card access systems management, card printing, troubleshooting system issues
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of industry standards related to physical security
- Knowledge and understanding of the technical and operating methods, tools, equipment and materials used in the design and maintenance of security system
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with other employees, agencies and the public
- Competency in operating a computer and applicable software including door access systems and security alert systems such as Alertus
- Basic knowledge of law enforcement procedures and techniques
- Working knowledge of emergency first-aid procedures
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Seeing, hearing, speaking and writing legibly
- Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling and crouching
- Frequent sitting, standing and walking, which may be required for long periods of time and may involve climbing stairs or ladders and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain
- Addition physical requirements may include frequent lifting and/or moving up to 45 pounds
