Your Position at St John of God Geelong Hospital
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join our Introduction to Speciality Practice in our Coronary Care Unit and develop your skills within a specialised cardiac environment.
This is a 12-month fixed-term, part-time position working 30 hours per week, commencing from February 2027.
The program is designed for a Division 1 Registered Nurse with acute nursing experience who is looking to build their knowledge and confidence in Coronary Care and cardiac nursing.
You will gain hands-on experience caring for patients with a range of acute and complex cardiac conditions, while developing your skills in cardiac monitoring, clinical assessment, recognising changes in patient condition and responding to clinical deterioration.
Working alongside experienced Coronary Care nurses and supported by dedicated Clinical Educators, you will have the opportunity to develop your clinical practice in a structured and supportive environment.
The Position
In this role, you will:
- Provide high-quality, person-centred nursing care to patients within the Coronary Care Unit.
- Develop your knowledge and skills in cardiac nursing and coronary care.
- Undertake comprehensive patient assessments and contribute to the development and evaluation of individualised care plans.
- Develop confidence in cardiac monitoring and recognising changes in cardiac rhythm and patient condition.
- Identify and escalate changes in a patient's clinical status appropriately.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing and multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families and members of the healthcare team.
- Contribute to discharge planning and ensure patients and families are appropriately prepared for discharge.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Practice in accordance with relevant legislation, professional standards, hospital policies and procedures.
- Contribute to a safe, supportive and positive patient experience.
- Maintain infection prevention and control practices in accordance with hospital policy.
About You
You will be a Division 1 Registered Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and at least two years' recent acute or medical nursing experience.
You will have:
- A genuine interest in developing your career in Coronary Care and cardiac nursing.
- Recent experience in an acute hospital environment.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- The ability to recognise and appropriately respond to changes in patient condition.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.

Previous cardiac or coronary care experience will be highly regarded; however, this opportunity is designed to support nurses looking to develop their specialty knowledge and experience.

The Benefits:
- Salary: $85,480 to $107,881 (pro date for part time), plus12% superannuation
- Fixed part-time role, up to 60 hours a fortnight.
