Job Description
Purchasing & Stores Controller
- Reporting to: Head of Procurement
- Job Purpose
Manage stock, stores operations, material handling, and logistics to ensure stock availability and data integrity for internal engineering and workshop teams.
- Key Responsibilities
- Purchasing duties, to include raising orders, expediting orders, supplier communications, supplier relations.
- Operational management of Stores, to include staffing Stores Counter, receiving, booking-in and locating deliveries.
- Preparing returns and parcels for dispatch.
- Pick components and issue, ensuring workshop shortages and stock requirements are actioned.
- Responsible for non-conforming product and return of incorrectly delivered items.
- Maintain effective consumable stock control and raising orders for replenishment.
- Maintain Surplus Stock records and storage, including Service Surplus Stock.
- Perform stock checks and investigate / resolve discrepancies.
- Liaise with engineering, workshop and other internal teams to ensure efficient service.
- Clear job shelves and handle leftover stock to maximise returns.
- Arrange inbound and outbound transportation of consignments, both in the UK and overseas.
- Replenish workshop consumables storage areas.
- Ensure integrity of stock data and produce stock and department reporting on request.
- Maintain stocktree pricing records for consumables, and other parts as required.
- Manage procurement aspects of test equipment calibration process.
- Material handling including driving Forklift Truck.
- Keep stores and workshop office areas clean & tidy.
- Adhering to the Company’s Quality and Health and Safety procedures.
- Contributing to business improvement projects to enhance functional procedures.
- Adhering to Procurement and Company policies, processes and procedures.
- Any other duties to support Head of Procurement, as required.
- Any other duties directed by the Head of Procurement.
Physical Demands
The role involves standing and moving around for large parts of the working day, with high level of mobility required. The role involves manual handling of parcels of up to 30kg using good manually handling practices, for which training will be provided.
Working Conditions
The role will be based from a desk within Stores / Workshop area of building. Day-to-day activities will be carried out within Stores and Workshop areas generally. There is a requirement for making and receiving deliveries and running errands in the Company van on an ad-hoc basis.
- Knowledge, Skills and Experience
GCSE at C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English
Computer literate – Word, Email
Intermediate - Excel
Experience in stores / warehouse role
Experience in purchasing role
Driving license
Forklift truck experience
Personal Qualities
Being a great team player as well as the ability to work off own initiative
Diligent and methodical with focus on detail / accuracy
Excellent communication skills, both oral & written
Confident and pro-active with an organised approach to work
