Description
We’re looking for a candidate to own the technical development of our electrical & automation control DSL, simulator, and drawing generation system. We are building out a model-based engineering & requirement engineering framework for multi-scale circuit simulation, that spans physical artifacts from industrial plants (process controls) to control panels (automation) to circuit board design. The previous era of software in this space had humans as the primary users for modeling, which led to this sort of software only being adopted in narrow areas. The new modeling users of the next era are programming agents that speak in code, as well as humans that interact with a high-fidelity, multi-scale simulator to guide comissioning (i.e. testing that the physical, constructed control system matches the design) and operator training.
This is a challenging product with lots of moving parts; a modeling language for these systems that can run simulations at various LODs (levels of details), being able to convert contradictory design artifacts (like drawings, Excel spreadsheets) in to the modeling language, and interfacing with external software (high fidelity simulators) as well as hardware (HMI systems, PLC controllers) for HIL simulation.
We’re a small team of engineers who love the intersection of engineering and computer science (alongside many other things like signal processing, computer graphics, compilers, etc) and are looking for fellow engineers who care a little too much about this.
As part of our founding team you may:
- Design typed object-based frameworks (or DSLs) for electrical systems, control systems, piping networks, etc.
- Create “renderers” that can convert those DSL into artifacts, like 2D drawings or 3D models.
- Build simulators and other engineering calculators that are interactive, with the goal of guiding commissioning and training.
- Create systems that can convert existing design artifacts (could come in a variety of file formats) into our modeling language, and be able to “simulate” the original artifacts through our modeling langauge.
- Work directly with customers (who are seasoned electrical and process engineers) to improve and deliver our product.
Required Qualifications:
- 6 or more years of professional experience in a relevant industry (for example, a CAD vendor, a digital engineering software company, or a user company, etc) or otherwise equivalent project experience
- Experience being a technical leader, architecting and building entire software frameworks
- Strong programming skills in C++, Rust, Python, Go, TypeScript, Zig, or similar languages, across mutliple parts of the system
- Strong computer science fundamentals (programming languages, formal verification, compilers, etc)
- Strong communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expeirnece building software that other engineers relied on, such as a compiler, simulator, SDK, robotics platform, etc.
- Experience working and building hardware (PCB design, industrial control systems, robotics, or even your own fun DIY projects)
- Experience or interest in industrial machinery (industrial plants, process manufacturing, heavy equipment design, etc)
- Experience using CAD / CAE software (electrical, mechanical, EDA software, chemical simulators, etc)
- Fluency in Japanese (definitely not a must have but often helpful)
