Job Summary

The Associate Director of Student Life and Booth Wellness will serve as the primary advisor for an assigned number of student groups in the Full-Time MBA program, assisting with conferences, panels, social events, budgeting, and the overall attainment of group goals. This position also supports Booth Wellness, which is primarily responsible for leading Chicago Booth’s efforts in the promotion, planning, development, and implementation of wellness initiatives for students in the MBA and Specialized Masters programs. The Associate Director is expected to develop and maintain relationships with designated student leaders throughout the students’ term at Chicago Booth.

This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored employment authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Proposes, advocates, designs and directs wellness programs and events, such as speaker series, educational workshops, and awareness-raising and community-building events that focus on improving the wellbeing of students.
  • Leads and assists in the design and facilitation of leadership training for new student leaders including conference and event planning, trips and treks, corporate sponsorship and alumni relations, and calendar planning.
  • Oversees the Wellness Fellows Program, a student leadership program to support wellness.
  • Advises a set of Booth student groups/clubs with their day-to-day processes, account management, and programming.
  • Works with student leaders to ensure that they are in compliance with the University’s policies regarding fund raising and use of group funds.
  • Liaise with student groups for sponsorship solicitation, securing of funds, tracking and record-keeping.
  • Manages student group conference and programming calendars.
  • Acts as a resource to student leaders through all aspects of event planning for conferences, panels, networking, and career presentations, including contract processing and on-site event coordination.
  • Assists with Spring Convocation Weekend, a celebratory weekend for graduates and their guests by organizing social events, receptions, mock classes, and faculty involvement.
  • Engages Career Services, Alumni Engagement, Chicago Booth Centers' staff, and the Evening/Weekend Programs in the transition and progression of student leaders each academic year.
  • Takes a leadership role in providing advice and counsel to the administration on health and wellness issues within the student community.
  • Assesses and recommends resources (funding, staff, space, etc.) needed to support health and wellness programming. Requests resources through the Chicago Booth budgetary allocation process.
  • Supports the Student Life team with special projects as assigned.
  • Guides students and staff to develop and implement activities, programs, and initiatives related to student life, and/or community involvement.
  • Uses in-depth knowledge and experience to recommend concepts for programming to leaders of various organizations and programs.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

  • MBA or master’s degree.
  • Background in higher education, student life, and/or student wellness.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Proficiency in utilizing design services such as Canva.

Preferred Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability in program and event planning, implementation, and assessment.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes.
  • Handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods, such as in person, email, and phone.
  • Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach.

Working Conditions

  • This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.
  • Work at both the Chicago Booth Harper Center in Hyde Park and the Chicago Booth Gleacher Center in downtown Chicago.
  • Staff and work extended hours for student events, occasionally occuring in the evening and on weekends.
