General Description:
The Senior SAP Ariba Application Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day support, configuration, enhancement, and optimization of SAP Ariba applications across the Source-to-Pay lifecycle. Working closely with Procurement, Finance, AP, and business stakeholders, the role provides hands-on functional support for Ariba upstream and downstream modules, drives continuous improvement initiatives, supports testing and releases, and helps deliver efficient, compliant, and user-friendly procurement processes globally.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Role Summary
Lead advanced troubleshooting and resolution of complex SAP Ariba issues, provide technical guidance, and ensure platform optimization across business processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced support for complex functional and technical issues.
- Perform deep-dive root cause analysis and drive permanent solutions.
- Configure and optimize Ariba modules to meet business needs.
- Lead incident management, problem management, and document findings.
- Serve as a functional escalation point for complex issues, collaborating with technical teams and external vendors to drive resolution.
- Collaborate with SAP, technical teams, and business stakeholders.
- Review and improve integration performance and data flows.
- Support release management, enhancements, and system upgrades
- Maintain and enhance support documentation, runbooks, and functional process documentation.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes
- Lead post‑incident reviews, and lessons learned.
- Work with integration teams on interface failures, data inconsistencies, and job orchestration issues.
- Support release validation, regression testing, and change impact assessment.
- Identify gaps in processes or tooling and drive continuous improvement initiatives (process optimization, automation opportunities).
- Mentor L2 support engineers and guide best practices to improve support maturity.
Qualifications:
- 4+ years of SAP Ariba experience with strong functional and configuration expertise.
- Hands-on experience across multiple Ariba modules: Ariba Upstream (Sourcing, Contracts & SLP), Ariba Downstream (Buying & Invoicing)
- Good knowledge of the software development lifecycle and/or DevOps and Agile methodologies, whilst adhering to a Secure Development Lifecycle (SDLC)!
- Experience in Incident, Request, Change and Problem Management aligned with IT Service Management principles
- Experience in Test, Release and Implementation
- Strong knowledge of procurement, sourcing, and supplier processes.
- Familiarity with integration frameworks (CI-9, APIs, middleware platforms).
- Experience with debugging issues across systems (Ariba, S/4HANA, etc.).
- Excellent stakeholder communication and leadership skills.
- Experience with ticketing tools (ServiceNow, Jira, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of integrations (IDocs, APIs, middleware).
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related field
Preferred Skills:
- Life sciences/pharmaceutical experience in regulated environments.
- SAP Ariba and/or SAP certifications.
- Experienced working in a global, diverse and multicultural environment
