Senior Cyber Security Engineer

About the Role

As a Senior Cyber Security Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and automating cyber security capabilities that protect BOQ Group's technology environment and support our customer-first digital strategy. Acting as a cyber security engineering subject matter expert, you will be responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and sustainable security solutions across both commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom-built platforms. With a strong focus on security automation, you will help drive the delivery of strategic cyber security objectives while ensuring solutions are effectively governed and aligned with regulatory and risk management requirements.

Working within Cyber Integration and Automation, you will lead the design, development, and administration of security automation platforms and initiatives that improve operational efficiency, reduce cyber risk, and enhance BOQ Group's overall security posture. You will act as an escalation point for complex and emerging cyber security engineering challenges, applying your technical expertise to develop innovative solutions that support the secure design, development, and operation of technology across the organisation.

Beyond technical delivery, you will influence and advise technology leaders, project teams, and third-party providers on cyber security engineering best practices, ensuring security is embedded throughout the technology lifecycle. You will also lead strategic automation projects, contribute to key cyber security technology decisions, and mentor junior engineers to build capability across the team. About You

You are an experienced cyber security engineer with a passion for automation and a proven track record designing, developing, and administering security solutions in complex enterprise environments. You bring more than five years' experience delivering cyber security automation capabilities, including Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) platforms, and have a strong background developing scalable solutions that improve security operations and reduce organisational risk. Your technical expertise spans a broad range of cyber security technologies, including endpoint, network, identity, cloud, data protection, threat intelligence, web application security, and security monitoring platforms. You are also comfortable leveraging programming languages such as Python to automate processes, integrate platforms, and solve challenging security engineering problems.

Beyond your technical capability, you are a trusted advisor who can influence and communicate effectively across all levels of an organisation. You have demonstrated experience partnering with technology leaders, architects, engineers, suppliers, and service providers to drive secure outcomes and balance business objectives with cyber security requirements. With a strong understanding of cyber security risk management within regulated environments, ideally financial services, you bring a pragmatic approach to decision-making, governance, and compliance. You are naturally collaborative, commercially minded, and enjoy mentoring others, sharing your expertise to build capability across the team. A degree in Cyber Security, relevant industry certifications, or equivalent hands-on experience underpins your ability to deliver strategic and operational cyber security outcomes.
