The Operations Manager is responsible for the daily execution and operational performance of assigned production cells within the value stream. The role provides hands-on leadership to technicians and ensures production activities meet safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and customer requirements. The Operations Manager drives disciplined shopfloor execution, people development, problem-solving, and continuous improvement while partnering with cross-functional teams to resolve operational constraints and support value stream objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management
- Lead and monitor day-to-day operations within assigned production cells to achieve planned output, turnaround time (TAT), productivity, and delivery targets.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures, repair processes, work instructions, and established production controls.
- Plan and allocate technician manpower based on production priorities, workload, skill requirements, and customer demand.
- Monitor shopfloor performance and ensure appropriate action is taken to address operational gaps and constraints.
- Maintain strong shopfloor discipline, accountability, and execution standards.
- Escalate significant operational issues and risks to the Value Stream Manager and relevant functions in a timely manner.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop technicians to achieve operational and individual performance objectives.
- Set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback and coaching to employees.
- Identify capability gaps and support appropriate training and development activities.
- Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous learning, and employee engagement.
- Support workforce planning and technician capability development within the assigned production area.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, repair procedures, and applicable aviation regulatory requirements.
- Promote a zero-defect mindset and reinforce quality ownership across the shopfloor.
- Partner with Quality and Engineering teams to support Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), corrective actions, and preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with EHS requirements and promote a safety-first culture.
- Take timely action on identified safety, quality, and compliance concerns and escalate issues where appropriate.
Operational Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and manage operational KPIs including TAT, yield, productivity, rework, efficiency, and other applicable performance measures.
- Lead daily management and tier meetings within the assigned operation to review performance, identify issues, and establish actions.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to improve operational performance.
- Lead continuous improvement activities using CORE, Lean, Kaizen, and other established improvement methodologies.
- Participate in and support CORE events and implementation of identified improvement actions.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, resource utilization, quality, and productivity.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Planning, Customer Service, and other functions to resolve production constraints.
- Support WIP management and recovery actions to meet customer delivery commitments.
- Coordinate manpower, material, tooling, equipment, and process requirements with relevant functions.
- Provide operational input to value stream planning and support execution of value stream priorities.
- Support site initiatives and operational readiness activities as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in operations management, aerospace MRO, manufacturing, or a similar technical environment.
- Strong understanding of production operations, manpower planning, resource management, and aviation quality requirements.
- Knowledge of applicable aviation regulatory standards such as FAA, EASA, and CAAM.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, CORE, and continuous improvement principles.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical or production teams.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication, people leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
