Job Purpose:

Our client is seeking a Management Accountant who is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining robust management accounting systems that support effective financial control and decision-making. The role focuses on budgeting, KPI design, cost tracking and performance reporting across cost centres and assets, with particular emphasis on vehicle and equipment running costs. The position requires close analysis of financial results against budgets and the integration of non-financial operational data to identify cost drivers, inefficiencies and questionable expenditure.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement and maintain budgets for all cost centres and asset classes, ensuring alignment with operational plans and organisational objectives.
• Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across cost centres and assets to measure efficiency, cost control and performance.
• Develop and operate a management accounting system that reports vehicle and equipment running costs, linking financial expenditure to non-financial metrics such as running hours, utilisation rates and shift throughput.
• Track, investigate and report questionable or anomalous expenditure, providing clear analysis and recommendations for corrective action.
• Prepare and present monthly financial performance reports for each cost centre, comparing actual results against budgets, highlighting variances and explaining root causes.
• Analyse cost behaviour and trends for vehicles, plant and equipment, supporting better resource allocation and cost-reduction initiatives.

Qualification & experience:

• Tertiary accounting qualification (BCom / BCompt).
• Proven experience in management accounting, budgeting and performance reporting, ideally within an asset-intensive or fleet/operations environment.
