Reach Truck Operator

Description

SUMMARY

We are looking for an experienced reach truck operator to move, put away and retrieve palletized inventory in a high-density racking environment. You will work at height in narrow aisles, keep inventory records accurate in our warehouse management system, and support receiving, replenishment and outbound shipping. This role is for someone who already operates a reach truck confidently and safely, and can help train and set the standard for newer operators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate a stand-up reach truck to put away, retrieve and relocate pallets in narrow-aisle racking at heights of up to 30 feet or more.
• Replenish pick locations and stage product for production, kitting and outbound shipments.
• Scan and record every move with RF scanners, keeping the WMS accurate in real time.
• Unload and load trailers and verify inbound and outbound counts against paperwork.
• Inspect pallets and product for damage, and rebuild or re-wrap loads as needed.
• Complete and document a pre-shift equipment inspection; report maintenance needs right away.
• Follow OSHA powered industrial truck rules and Hatteras safety procedures, and report incidents and near-misses.
• Take part in cycle counts and physical inventories.
•  Keep aisles, docks and staging areas clean, clear and organized.
• Mentor and support newer operators, and step in on other equipment (sit-down forklift, electric pallet jack) when needed.

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required Experience

• At least 2 years of recent experience operating a reach truck in a warehouse or distribution center.
• Current forklift/reach truck certification, or the ability to pass our operator evaluation and certification.
• A proven safety record and experience working at height in narrow aisles.
• Experience with RF scanners and a warehouse management system.
• Basic math and reading skills for counts, labels, pick tickets and bills of lading.
• Reliable attendance and the ability to work overtime during peak periods.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with order picker, sit-down counterbalance or turret truck equipment.
• Experience in print, packaging, kitting or third-party logistics (3PL) fulfillment.
• Experience training other operators or serving as a shift lead.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Stand on equipment for most of the shift and work at elevated heights.
• Lift up to 50 lbs regularly and bend, reach and climb as needed.
• Work in a warehouse environment with seasonal temperature changes and equipment noise; required PPE includes safety footwear and high-visibility vests.
