Job Description:

Overview: The BIM Manager is responsible for leading the planning, implementation, management, and continuous improvement of Building Information Modeling (BIM), Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), and digital delivery processes for Ferrovial projects. This role provides technical leadership for BIM strategy, model coordination, project-specific BIM standards, digital workflows, and model-based collaboration to support design coordination, construction planning, project controls, field execution, and client deliverables.

Responsibilities and Duties:

BIM Strategy, Standards & Execution Planning 

• Develop, implement, and manage BIM execution plans, project BIM standards, model management procedures, digital delivery workflows, and supporting documentation, including templates, checklists, and workflow guides.

• Establish naming conventions, file exchange protocols, model review procedures, coordination processes, quality control expectations, model structures, and content libraries.

• Define BIM uses and deliverables for design coordination, constructability reviews, 4D sequencing, quantity takeoff, field coordination, and project handover.

• Ensure BIM/VDC processes align with Ferrovial standards, project requirements, contractual obligations, owner/client expectations, and project execution strategies.

Model Management, Coordination & Quality Control 

• Lead the creation, maintenance, review, and quality control of federated BIM models across disciplines and project scopes.

• Manage model coordination across civil, structural, architectural, MEP, utilities, temporary works, roadway, bridge, transit, and other related project elements.

• Review model content for accuracy, completeness, constructability, compliance, and alignment with project requirements and field execution needs.

• Oversee clash detection, coordination meetings, issue resolution, follow-up actions, and related documentation, including clash reports, issue registers, and model review records.

Digital Construction, 4D/5D Integration & Field Support 

• Support the integration of BIM with scheduling, estimating, project controls, construction planning, and field operations.

• Coordinate 4D construction sequencing by linking model content with project schedules and supporting model-based visualizations, logistics plans, phasing studies, and sequencing analyses.

• Support 5D workflows, model-based quantity takeoff, cost-related data extraction, estimating support, and project decision-making as applicable.

• Support field teams with model access, issue tracking, layout coordination, digital documentation, constructability reviews, and construction technology solutions such as reality capture, laser scanning, drones, digital twins, and mobile field tools.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration 

• Lead, mentor, and support BIM Coordinators, modelers, and project team members involved in BIM/VDC workflows.

• Coordinate with project managers, design managers, engineers, superintendents, estimators, schedulers, subcontractors, consultants, and client representatives to support effective BIM/VDC execution.

• Facilitate BIM coordination meetings, model review sessions, digital planning workshops, and collaboration meetings while clearly communicating requirements, issues, risks, opportunities, and recommended solutions.

• Support owner/client presentations with model-based visuals, simulations, dashboards, and coordination updates while promoting collaboration across design, construction, project controls, estimating, procurement, quality, safety, and field operations teams.

Technology, Training & Continuous Improvement 

• Lead the adoption and effective use of BIM/VDC software, digital construction tools, common data environments, and collaboration platforms.

• Provide training, coaching, and guidance to project teams on BIM standards, model coordination, digital workflows, and model access.

• Stay current with BIM/VDC technologies, construction innovation, digital delivery trends, and industry best practices.

• Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities related to model coordination, automation, reporting, digital handover, project delivery, and technology adoption.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Engineering, Design Technology, Building Information Modeling, or a related technical field preferred.

• Equivalent combination of technical training, certifications, and relevant project experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

• Minimum of eight (8) years of related work experience in the construction industry.

• A thorough understanding of all building and roadway systems. 

• Understanding of design and document coordination.

• Knowledge of construction nomenclature and techniques (means and methods).

• Expert-level knowledge of OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, InRoads, and AutoCAD Civil 3D required.

• Experience with 3D modeling for surveying and design.

• Experience managing survey teams.

• Knowledge of Autodesk BIM 360, Revit, and Navisworks required.
